Let's talk about It

My Wii story started with my at the time wife ( I can now think of better description) saying I couldn't have one because they were too much . Where I worked at the time as a manager had this suggestion scheme make a suggestion there willing to contemplate and they'll give you £5 per suggestion... I said to my then wife look if I can make the cash outside of my regular wages and bonuses then I can have it right to which she agreed, I made over the £180 needed purely in suggestions.

So I pre orderd it from Toys R Us the reason for this mostly being the fact I had gotten the GameCube from there a week after its release and it/they had been great they threw a 3rd party memory card in for free and then I got Rogue Squadron for cheaper by like £10 or £15 for buying it alongside the console.

A week before it was due out Toys the us called and asked me what pack I wanted, I said I didn't want a pack just the machine they told me they were not going to sell them without bundles so I had to pick one or tough, all of there so called packs were an attempt to get you to buy all the worse release games with the machine for practically full rrp. I told them where they could stick it and ended up cuing at a semi local Tesco.

This Tesco had like 30 units and I was around 20th in the cue so got one.. there was some good points to this 1) my wife was a Tesco employee so we got 10percent discount, we also had a voucher to save £20 if you spent over £200 on 1 transaction and a whole bunch of club card points. In the end I got the Wii, Zelda, and Wii play.

I enjoyed the Wii at first I really liked Zelda but the release schedule was slow, 8 months later I got a second hand Xbox 360 which saw a lot more use. Later in the machines life I started getting things like Last Story, Pandora's tower etc and I got a new found appreciation for the machine.. I really really like the machine now but I feel it took it a long time to really get it's legs beyond being a novelty and that for most serious gamers it was much better as a secondary machine alongside a PS3 or XBOX 360.

Nice pre-order story.. pretty much sums up the console. I won a 360 Lite for free in a raffle and played Bayonetta and RE5 a bit and that's it... rinsed both Bayos on Wii U though.

So from that perspective I barely scratched either gen and I'm still playing PS3 games today.. I was working pretty hard at uni to be fair.

My collection of Wii games is bigger than any other collection of games I've ever had. Loved it.

Nintendo were my road into games consoles and the Gamecube remains my all time favourite system so I was pretty excited by the Wii, absolutely loved the design of the system, the new control scheme, things like the virtual console etc.

It also came at a good time for me because I'd just got my first full-time job after packing in Uni so I had some cash, I'd had a bit of a lull from gaming over the year before so it all came together nicely. I picked it up from Game on launch day along with Twilight Princess and Wii Play (for the extra controller mostly). Ended up really frustrated with Zelda on launch day (that bob fishing :x ) but came to love it, Wii Play and Wii Sport were fun briefly but the novelty soon wore off. Problem with the Wii was that the schedule after release was so bare, I gave the other launch titles like Monkey Ball/Red Steel a miss after reading the poor reviews but I picked up some other well reviewed titles in the months that followed, I enjoyed Wario Ware but the others such as SSX Blur, Sonic & the Secret Rings and Excite Truck all failed to really grab me. For the most part it ended up being a Super Smash Bros Melee machine for the first year or so.

I feel like that was really the story of much of my time with the Wii to be honest, games that I enjoyed briefly but that really failed to grab me. There were obvious exceptions like Super Mario Galaxy 1/2 and Resident Evil 4 on Wii remains for me the definitive version of the game but overall I felt like most continuations of series' were weaker than their Gamecube equivalent (Brawl and MK Wii for example), Skyward Sword had some brilliant moments but at its worst was Zelda at its most frustrating and tedious and whilst I enjoyed the resurgence of 2D platformers it began to feel like we were bombarded with them later on in the systems life.

Overall it's probably the Nintendo console I have the least love for and comfortably the largest amount of unfinished games for as well :fp:

I got mine on launch with Zelda and playing HD games had really spoiled me and Zelda looked a blurry mess. I absolutely hated it at the time. I remember Mario Galaxy 1 was probably my favourite game on the system, but I also enjoyed Mario Kart, House of the Dead Overkill and Punchout.

I got Twilight Princess HD on the Wii-U last year and had a far more positive experience. I far preferred it to Skyward Sword and its probably my third favourite in the series after Ocarina and Majora.

Overall, I don't really have fond memories of the Wii. It felt out of date to me when it launched and it felt like it lost momentum after the first 2 years and was supported mainly by shovelware from third parties.

I got mine the summer after it launched. I loved it, probably not as much as the GC overall, but still too much to be justified online without being coerced into vlogging about it.

I got mine years after it came out just to play new Zelda and that's pretty much it.

We're into the final hours for purchasing / registering Wii Shop credit. If you plan on buying anything from the Shop - including games from, arguably, what remains the best Virtual Console service around - you'd best move quickly!

I remember picking my Wii and Zelda up at a midnight launch at HMV with My bitch slut whore ex, and not long after we got home my cock juggling thunder banana split girlfriend saw a trailer for Raving Rabbids and got all excited but the look of it that the smelly strawberry floating whore went straight to Asda to pick that up and another controller... great times with no regrets or remorse and nothing to dampen the memory. Filthy shitting ugly piss drinking, banana strawberry floating cheating whoreeeeeee!

How do you even cheat in Rayman Raving Rabbids anyway? Don't be such a sore loser.

>>> Reminder: The Wii Shop closes on 31 January! <<<

> It has lasted into its thirteenth year but, yes, the Wii Shop will close at the end of this month
> Make sure that you have downloaded all of the games that you have purchased via the Shop... you won't be able to after 31 January!
> Nintendo Life has made a short guide detailing how to check - click here to view

I wish there was a way to download your purchased games to more than one console. If my Wii ever busts, my games will be gone* :-( .

Oh, and, yeah... you don't think I'd forget about the music, do you?

* Barring emulation / hacking etc. But how come these options trump the legit method? Digital gaming :fp: .

The Wii is easier to softmod than any console I can think of, and once you've done that, you can pirate what you need.

This is why I get annoyed with the pearl clutching over physical media. "How will I play my games when the servers shut down!?", piracy that's how.

Good job I checked... I didn't have Gates of Thunder (PC Engine / Turbo GRFX) downloaded. I have now :toot: .

Top tip: If you plan on playing Skyward Sword on your Wii, make sure you've downloaded the (free) Save Data Update Channel from the Shop. I'm gonna get my second Wii setup this weekend to make sure this file is on it!

Looking through the Shop, man I'm reminded just how good the range of Vitual Console games and systems is. It seems incredible that, somehow, Nintendo hasn't attained this standard on the U or the Switch.

Edit: I have 100 Wii Points left... not enough to buy anything! IIRC, 100 points is equivalent to 70p. I wonder how much total cash value is gonna "disappear" with the closure of the Shop?
