Oh, man, I forgot about the "gift" option... you could purchase a game as a gift for a friend; when they next turned on their console, they could download the game! Another feature that Nintendo also seems to have forgotten about nowdays... harrumph!

Got a Wii on launch day from Game when it was in Clayton square in Liverpool with Twilight Princess and Rayman Raving Rabbids, finished TP within December and hated the system compared to the love I had for the Gamecube. Got rid of it at the start of January at CEX who offered me more than what I paid for it which got me a lovely HD Ready TV at the time.

Ah crap, forgot to do this when I was in the UK over Christmas.

If only Nintendo have a way to let you do stuff remotely via a website or had a unified account system across all its consoles.

Probably quite a lot given how many were sold and people not understanding stuff.

IIRC there was a bug in the game; something that stopped you progressing past a point or caused a corruption or something. The update resolves the issue through updating your save data. You can find it listed in the Channel section of the Wii Shop.

Oh! And this may be worth (Wii U-owning) folk thinking about, too - it may be good to download the Wii U Transfer Tool from the Channel list... just in case you plan on transferring your Wii games to your U in the future. I don't plan on doing this, but I'm gonna download the file just in case I want to at some point in the future.

Ah okay, I just read up on it and the game will be fine without it as long as you don't trigger a specific (save ending) glitch.

Dang it, Nintendo! All these cool things that used to be available but now aren't... even the Wii allowed for messages to be sent to friends! And here we are in 2019 and we can't do this any more!

I love the Switch but, man, the more I look at the system features the more I realise that older Nintendo systems had *way* better functions!

Anyway... [rant over] . Back on message... best check out your Wii during the next week or so to make sure you have all of your games (and channels / updates!) downloaded :-) .

Sudden thought... I guess that you could do a back-up of your downloaded games by inserting a new SD card and re-downloading them to the card? You'd still need your original console, of course, but at least you'd have a back-up card if the original one failed.

Would a GR techie know if my thinking is correct on this?

Yes you can save games to SD but they take ages. You can't back that up on Windows at least as the format is unreadable but I guess some software could clone it.

Piracy will save you.

If only we had a big folder full of every Wii shop release....

Twilight Princess and Galaxies games was the only highlight for me, after the novelty of Wii Sports faded away.

My main console at the time was a 360. Then switched away to a PS3.

The Wii was a fantastic console but I prefer the N64 and GameCube.

I played on the Wii this afternoon with one of my nephews. I hadn't wielded a Remote for ages and we had a great time! Wii Party is hugely under-rated; there are plenty of fun and silly games to play through.

But my nephew (who is 10) beat my record on Lofty Leap :x ; and my record on the stone-skimming in Wii Play Motion :x . ( ) .

I have no idea why this isn't a feature on all consoles with a store.
It's perfect when playing an online game and you know that a friend will enjoy it but they won't buy it because of lack of spare cash at that time and you're in a generous mood.

I agree that Wii Party is underrated, far more accessible than the Mario Parties of the time, and actually fun to play.

Sorry for the bump!

Yesterday I was given, completely free of charge, a brand new condition Wii. In black. :datass:

It came with FOUR Wii motion plus remotes (extra long remotes can do one!), three were boxed as new, completely unused.
A new balance board. And some tat games.

Was up until 2am playing Wii Sports and Wii Sports Resort :toot: :toot: forgot how fun this is was!

And then my son woke up this morning and then I casually started a game of tennis without him knowing what it was. His mind was BLOWN TO SMITHEREENS! Using the controller as a tennis racket?! OMG WTF BBQ!!

Been playing all day  (I am an archery god!).

I need to delve a bit more into the back catalogue really. Never did give me Wii much of a chance the first time around. Used to enjoy Red Steel... Is the sequel any good?

And of course need to get Galaxy 2...

Could do it with knowing if there's an easy to follow "guide" ( :shifty: ) to getting the best out of the console.. Ifyouknowwhatimean... ;)

Great stuff Lewis. One of the reasons I'm hanging on to my Wii U is for the old Wii stuff. Every now and then we'll dig it out and have a few rounds of bowling and tennis on Wii sports. Wii gets a lot of gooseberry fool, but when it came out there just wasn't anything like it - it was exciting for a long time gamer like me to have this new (and working well) control method, but also all the people who wouldn't normally play games could all understand it and have a go, no matter their age.

You can do the letterbomb hack (which is stupidly easy) but that may not be available any more or compatible with that model. You can also use some games (like Lego batman) to run save exploits and install the homebrew channel. I used Lego batman on my Wii U to mod the Wii side of it. If you want to borrow that to do the exploit on yours, let me know and ill post it to you.

It's been ages since I hacked mine (Easily about 5-6 years), but GBATemp is always a good place to check for guides.

Red Steel 2 is really good. I would assume you can get it for next to nothing. It makes great use of the motion plus.
