Well that's a pain as I sold the Wii (and therefore the controllers and sensor bar) last Summer. Guess I'll stick to Gamecube emulation. Playing Super Monkey Ball atm, I think I need to turn down sensitivity, or else the Gamecube joystick just made the game vastly easier!

You can bind the pointer to the right stick. It's even flexible enough to allow you to choose between absolute and relative positioning.

SMG plays better with a 360 pad anyway. You can remap the spin attack to a button (godsend), and the ball-balancing can be put on a stick (though, you have to switch the config each time you come to a section).

People aren't still going on about that not working sometimes are they?

I really don't get the issue some seemed to have with it, it never didn't work when it was supposed to for me.

To be honest, I didn't really use the spin attack much unless I had to anyway. I kind of thought it was cheating ;)

While I agree that your experience undoubtedly applies to everyone and anyone who says otherwise is a lying banana split...

I actually meant the pointless gesture-waggling this time.

But there's only one "gesture waggling" thing in Galaxy: The spin attack. Other than that you only have the pointer, and infrequent accelerometer interludes.

So I have to buy a wireless sensor bar if I want to play Wii games on this?

Apparently not.

F Zero runs very well on Dolphin too. Constant 60fps in forced widescreen, 1920x1080p, 2x internal resolution, 4xAA and 2xAF. Got Viewtiful Joe 2 downloading atm, only had the original on the Gamecube so looking forward to giving the sequel a go.

I could be overlooking some emulation stipulation, so I apologise if this information is useless, but I believe F-Zero GX has a widescreen mode if you are in need of a way to circumvent the stretched features in the game. Or might that knock down the frames-per-second...?

When I had a Gamecube I was playing on a 4:3 TV so I never knew it did have widescreen. I have the ticked box set to force widescreen for the emulator, but if it doesn't need to force anything, it doesn't take away resources that could otherwise go on the framerate. Regardless, my PC plays F Zero at a rock solid 60fps so it represents no issue atm anyway. :)

Running the emulation natively at widescreen resolutions before rescaling for your screen might potentially be more work for the emulator.

It really all depends how the emulator is rendering stuff.

Yeah, you're right. I only took a quick glance at the names of the options I didn't set. It didn't register with me that "forward" and "backward" meant moving closer to and further from the IR bar. Shame, as I'm sure it's a pretty easy hack.

I already did on the previous page: intel i5 2500k processor, 8gb of DDR3 1333mhz RAM and AMD 6950 2gb graphics card (bios flashed out of the box to 6970).

I reckon I can probably do this with 2.66Ghz dual core i7, 4GB 1067MHz RAM and 512MB GeForce 330M in the MBP.

I bet there are a bunch of games that would actually run better on this system just because of the CPU... I need to upgrade my gaming PC.

My GC is locked up in storage and I don't want or have need for a TV, so this is great for me. :) 360 wireless pad should work well, as it's virtually the same layout.

I'm currently running:
Base - AMD® Phenom™ II X4 940 Black Edition (3.0GHz, 125W)
Memory - 8192MB 800 MHz Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM [4x2048]
Video Card - 1GB ATI® Radeon™ 4870 HD graphics card
Hard Drive - 1TB (7200rpm) Serial ATA/100 Hard Drive
Running Windows 7 64bit

Pretty sure my graphics card is whats preventing me from getting decent 1080p speeds out of stuff. Windwaker runs beautifully at 720p but starts to suffer at anything higher. Still haven't taken 3.0 for a proper test run yet. Had a quick shot and I seem to be getting some audio glitches I never had before.

Anyone having problems getting certain games to run well, or suffering crashes should be checking out out the dolphin forums.
http://forums.dolphin-emulator.com/
The game specific threads will detail settings that help each game. Obviously certain games just don't run properly at all. I think Rogue Squadron is one of them. :(

Games look amazing in Dolphin.

I've been on a Zelda binge as of late, so for anyone who wants a Zelda game they probably haven't played, try Zelda BS: Ancient Stone Tablets. It's essentially A Link To The Past: Master Quest. Takes just 4 hours to complete (as it was originally broadcast in hour-long chunks) and you don't play as Link, but certainly worth a look.

http://www.zeldawiki.org/BS_The_Legend_of_Zelda:_The_Ancient_Stone_Tablets

The ROMs (there's 4 in total) are very easy to find; Nintendo have left the website with it on alone for years. I knew about the SNES BS Zelda 1 remake, but I had no idea about this until a few weeks ago.

If you want to hear a little about Stone Tablets, skip to 15.30:

I'm sorry, but that F Zero screenshot looks rubbish. The problem is the high-res highlights the low poly models used and the lack of anti-aliasing. No a problem 10 years ago with CRT TVs and a maximum res of 480P. I suppose, that's the problem with emulation.
