Accepting that piracy of titles you can buy right now for existing consoles is very much theft but playing abandonware on an emulator is more of a grey area as you cannot pay for those titles anyway, what would a developer have to worry about with emulators anyway?

I know Switch emulators exist but the next most recent hardware in terms of emulation is the Xbox 360 and I don't know of anyone developing titles for that.

I am loving using the Duckstation emulator for PS1 with all the enhancements jacked up. Turns it into a PS1 Pro.

I prefer the original crash games over the remakes (I swear down the physics are different) and playing Crash Bandicoot 2 in widescreen with internal resolution at 720p and PGXP geometry corrections turned on is way cool :datass:

All the signature PS1 wobbly texture seams get fixed, it's neat.

Nice. Though I do sometimes like to see a little bit of texture warping. It's nostalgic.

Ordered from amazon and it arrived the same day

It's bloody lovely, very well made and the dpad and buttons feel great. It also came loaded with thousands of games across all systems up to the first PlayStation which I wasn't expecting, so I was able to play right away.

That device sure does look neat - can the screen image be viewed okay from different angles?

Oh, yeah, and the state of that sofa material (?), hand, nails etc.

Yes it's great from all angles (context). Needs a bit of tweaking (context mk2) as there's some screen tearing on the megadrive stuff, so some vsync will be needed.

GBA games are amazing on it, the screen and form factor really suit it. Also played a bit of mame on it, and the original gran turismo which is very odd to be able to do.

Miyoo mini is so tempting to me, but I already several handhelds that can emulate lol

Make sure to dump the SD card it came with (they are knock offs and prone to failing after like 2 weeks) and stick Onion OS onto an SD card of your own - it will sort out the issues you mentioned and is meant to be 100000000x nicer to use than stock OS.

Oh thanks that's good to know. It's got some shitty unbranded 64gig card in there at the moment. I've got a few quality 128gb ones I can use so I'm good there. It has onion on already, but I've seen there's a tweaked version of it available that adds all sorts of QOL features.

Yeah I'd always dump any card that comes in a console like this to your computer , not only to put things on a reliable card but to have a back up of the running files incase anything goes wrong in the future and also in case it comes with any interesting ROMs you would like to use on any other device, even some of the worst Chinese consoles I've grabbed have had an interesting ROM or two that's a game I've never heard of on them.

Good point on the roms. It seems to also have a load of Rom hacks on there too.

Yeah if you are wanting "authentic" roms you tend to want the ones badged "no-intro" as they are just straight rips. These handhelds although it's convenient they come with roms tend to be full of hacks that have cheats enabled, mario swapped for sonic or other weirdness.

It's up to you OBVIOUSLY but I also don't personally recommend having entire rom sets on the handheld, it's tempting when they are small for 8/16 bit systems but it just leads to decision fatigue. I use mine a million times more now I just have the games I know I like/want to try out on there. Keep the full sets on your PC.

One of the cheapo Handhelds I had came with nothing but Japanese Roms , which pretty much were all things you needed to understand Japanese to play, it was ok once I swapped them out for English stuff, not the best handheld ever but having more easily playable stuff certainly helped.

I updated it all last night, but one of the menus wasn't working properly so I'm going to reinstall the OS again tonight to see if it fixes it.

GBA and PS1 are perfect on it, so good.
