They're excellent. If you can find a 21'' 4:3 model on eBay that hasn't been used to death then I'd go for one of those.

And since it's an emulator thread, you might want to track down an old IBM ThinkVision 21'' CRT monitor with a Sony Trinitron screen for your emulating needs. They weigh a ton, but they're the last word in retro CRT monitors. :)

Been trying out the ReDream emulator for Dreamcast lately and it's very good. Definitely better than the Flycast core in RetroArch.

I got a Sony WEGA set off Gumtree for £10 about two years ago.

You'll kill yourself trying to move the damn thing, but as long as you put the right connections into it (RGB SCART ftw) you'll get an amazing picture from it.

Ooh ace, I'll have to try this. Think I had some good but ocasionally stuttery results with Flycast. I hunger for 4k Chu Chu Rocket!

Worth pointing out that for any resolution above 1600x900 on ReDream you need to contribute $5 towards the development. That will also unlock more than 1 save state per game.

There's also a build of ReDream that works, very well, on Raspberry Pi 4.

I'd seen that the Pi version was being very well received.

I had been holding out for Retropie to get a version together for the 4, but they're still waiting. Lakka might be an alternative in the meantime.

Yeah, it's not a good idea to carry a decent-sized CRT around on your own. :) Think mine is pre-WEGA, it's a KV-21LS3OU, FWIW, and like your WEGA the picture quality is top-drawer.

I learned that myself.

When I moved I made damn sure the moving guys dealt with that thing.

Not mine but this is what it looks like. A Sony Wega KD-28DX51U.

Sound is pretty good from it, has two SCART sockets (1 RGB), a composite input on the front and S-Video support as well (Though nothing I use has S-Video output).

I had to buy a replacement Remote for it from eBay but that was only £5 or so.

One of the best retro-purchases I've made in years.

Ooo! :) Very stylish. I wondered if it was 16:9, and it is! Mine is 4:3, which is great for older systems, but if I got one like yours to sit next to mine then I could hook it up to newer consoles and have the best of all worlds. Unfortunately, I doubt I'll find one for a tenner like you, so it'll have to remain a pipe dream for the time being. :(

I also don't have room for one - I have no idea why that was an afterthought. I think I just saw the pic and thought: Shiny!!!! :)

It does the job. Can make it display in 4:3 mode as well for the systems with no 16:9 support, which is pretty helpful. But like we've said it's big and it's heavy.

EDIT: My SNES through the RGB socket looks fantastic on it as well.

I regret not holding on to my CRT screen for longer, had a really nice 28" wide-screen Sony that was perfect for stuff up to the PS2 era.

As noted RGB scart is absolutely the way to go for connecting stuff, I had a cable that could switch between RGB and composite on the fly and I would often just sit there and flick between the two in amazement at what a difference it made!

I remember moving from RF to Composite and thinking it looked amazing.

It was only really when looking back at them that I found out just how gooseberry fool composite looks on an HD TV.

All the CRT TVs I've had weren't worth holding on to, all week bought purely because they were cheap.

Had several Bush, Philips and JVC 14 inch ones and a 27 inch Philips one (which had a slightly skewed display which cut of a small part of the top right and bottom left of anything displayed on it) before getting rid in favour of the first HDTV I I owned (one of those Samsung ones used to demo the Xbox 360).

Anyone able to add Sega Smash Pack or Sega Arcade Gallery for GBA to the folder?

Would be much appreciated.

Yeah, I've got a widescreen LG CRT that has started to go green at one corner. Sony sets seem to last a good bit longer, though, so when my LG finally gives up the ghost I think I'll look into getting a Wega like Cheeky Devlin's.

Gone back to SNES emulation on the original 3DS recently and forgotten how good it can be. The retroarch-provided cores are terrible - or maybe expect you to use a New 3DS which they maybe run fine on (wouldn't know). Been using bubble2k16's version of snes9x instead and the games have been running perfectly at full speed.

Can even make good use of fast forward which I can bind to a button (useful for the slow enemy turns in the FE games). They look nice in pixel-perfect mode as well. Still a good size.

Switch emulator Yuzu keeps continuing to improve and impress. Some optimisations have now made Super Mario Odyssey very playable on my machine. You can see it dropping resolution at times to keep the framerate up and some areas do still lag a bit, but it's extremely impressive.
