I'm thinking of buying a Raspberry Pi 3B+ for emulation purposes, as a replacement for my SNES mini, which I haven't had much luck modding (probably due to cheap usb connectors, but whatevs).

Can anyone recommend a case for one? I like the look of the Kintaro Super Ursus, but it's out of stock everywhere I've looked. I remember seeing a similar one in this thread, or perhaps the SNES mini thread, but I can't remember the brand name.

The Super Kuma 9000 one is in stock on Amazon. It's the US model SNES but it's the one I have.

Does that one have the front USB ports like the Ursus? I suppose it won't matter much, as I'll probably just use a wireless controller, but it'd be nice to have.
EDIT- It looks like that case isn't compatible with the 3B+, apparently due to the heatsink size.

I've also seen the MegaPi which looks pretty nice, but it doesn't seem to mention room for a heatsink?

Ah didn't realise the 3B+ was a different size.

Looking through the Kintaro Facebook page, I think I had the wrong end of the stick. The Kuma 9000 supports both, but they sell separate heatsinks for each Pi model. I think they just different slightly in the positioning of some components.

Not Raspberry Pi related, but one of the Youtube channels I follow (ETAPrime) does emulation system videos. It's what I based my Retro PC build on last year, and he's just uploaded another one showing how you can create your own Retro Gaming system running Batocera (Kinda like Retropi) for about £30. This thing should be able to handle up to Dreamcast and even Dolphin!

I just checked eBay and the Optiplex 360 model (Though the specs do vary a little) can be had in the £20+ price range.

I absolutely love that, even with the smallest budgets, you can put together something pretty impressive.

I've got an Optiplex 740 so I'm gonna give that a shot and see how it works. Looks like I can fit my spare GTX 1030 in as well. :datass:

I just bought a PSONE emulator for my phone. Could somebody pm me and give me some advice on how to load my games into my phone?

I guess it depends on the type of phone you have.

For android, you should be able to hook it up to your PC and transfer the files that way. Certainly that's the simplest way.
Alternatively you can use a cloud storage app like Dropbox or Google Drive to download them onto your phone.

For iPhone I'm not sure at all.

To make this, I had to convert the Retropie logo to a screen format the Spectrum could use, then create a custom loader for it. I then used FUSE on my PC and Windows 10's built in capture tools to make a video of the Spectrum loading the screen. The used a website to crop the menu bar from that capture, and installed an old version of Windows Movie Maker to finish the job and do the transition to the full Retropie logo.

I'm rather proud of myself.

Nice. We never really did the home computer thing until windows, console only. But that's well smart. Speaks to the versatility of the Pi.

I wonder where single board computers will be 5 years from now.

Managed to set up some nice looking forwarder channels for my emulators on the Wii. Also grabbed some of the VC channels. Had no idea Pokemon Snap was on the VC, I've been dying to play that again properly for years.

Pi development seems to have slowed down a bit and there's not been any big jumps in performance in a year or two now. Certainly nothing like the jump from Pi 2 to 3. Both the B and B+ are fairly incremental upgrades. I'd hope for a Pi4 fairly soon, if only so we can get better Dreamcast and N64 emulation. I think PS2 and GC is still too much to expect.

I'm actually getting interested in some of the other board systems such as ODroid, just to see what else they can do.

Sweet. I used to be really interested in softmodding my existing consoles, primarily to play emulators. But it's something I've drifted away from in the past year or so. Basically since solid alternatives became available for emulating what I wanted on smaller, more discrete devices. I do still keep an eye on it though. Saw a video the other day about a PS2 softmod that allows it to upscale its output up to HD, which is ridiculous.

Please, Mr. Devlin, sir. Might you help a poor serf in locating Tomba 1 for the PS1? Ever so 'umble, sir...
