It can run GameCube games natively, as it basically has Wii hardware built in. It’s taken me a bit of work, but I can now run basically every Nintendo console up to wiiU on it. Also got retroarch so can run loads of other stuff. A lot of it is done through the vWii, but you can set up forwarders so you can control it from the wiiU menu and use the wiiU game pad and it’s screen.

I played about with that a few months ago and it's definitely getting better. Xbox emulation finally seems to be getting somewhere.

I'll be honest I'm not that technically minded, but surely as the OG Xbox uses custom x86 hardware it would be an easier system to emulate than other platforms? What's taken it so long to get this far?

Honestly from what I can tell a lot of the issues stem from lack of interest and some of the quirks of the hardware.

While it may be based on x86 hardware it had its own intricacies that complicated things.

From what I've read CXBHXR has changed a few hands during the course of its development. Hoping who ever is behind the wheel now sticks with it.

I would love a decent Xbox emulator. I want to go back and play Outrun 2 again. My 360’s disc drive is knackered and I can’t be bothered bringing the big boy OG Xbox out.

I miss my XBOX, I traded it in to get a discount on the 360 back in the day and although the 360 was fantastic and I definitely felt like it was a good move at the time I have grown to somewhat regret that decision now.

A great OG XBOX emulator would be a wonderful thing.

So this is something I didn't realise I wanted....

EDIT: I'll add this hasn't been released yet as they are still building it, but it looks immense.

Found someone local selling an original xbox modded with Xecuter 2 and Evox installed quite cheap. Not being clued up on Xbox modding does this mean it's a ready to go emulation system?

Not overly familiar with modding the OG Xbox but from a brief google it would appear that the Xecuter 2 is a physical mod-Chip and that Evox is a dashboard environment. I would expect then, that it's ready to go in terms of installing emulators and other homebrew onto it.

Certainly I would take your time to establish exactly what you have and how it's configured before diving too deep into it though. Last thing you want is to brick the system through some form of conflict.

Yes my Xbox is chipped with xecuter and some other dashboard and it runs emus up to ps1 no problem. You connect it to Ethernet and ftp to it to install ROMs. It also has a firmware switch so you can use it normally if you want.

Ok sounds good being sold quite cheap as he's having a clear out. Tempted to pick it up! Either that or I'm buying a Wii to homebrew

As Xbox is older the codebases might be a bit dead.. I haven't even added ROMs to it myself as I also got it second hand from a friend who's an electrical engineer. Most of what I'd want to play is already on there. There's 1000s of ROMs on it already, which I'm thankful for as I actually went and deleted a lot of mine that I had no intention of playing at the time.

I imagine the Wii scene is still quite lively because GameCube stuff.

The things I'm missing out on most are JP-only or rare shmups like Neo Geo / PC Engine stuff.

I wondered that too, Gecko... but I've had a quick look around and it seems that the Original Xbox scene still has lots of developments going on :-) . Check out OGXbox.com forums for a flavour!

I downloaded the PSX retroarch core o to my wiiU last night, but I can’t get a game to work. I’m not sure if I’ve set it up correctly. I’ve just put the bin and cue files into a folder in the same place as all my other games (which work fine).

I’ve tried losing the cue file once the core is loaded but nothing happens.

Am I doing something wrong?

No. I just know that you're doing something wrong because it's not working.

Ok, maybe I should be clearer, anyone got any idea if that’s the correct way to structure the folders and should it be the cue file you launch? Not sure if those are the issue or if it’s likely to be something else.

It'll be either the bin, or cue file you use. If one doesn't work, try the other.

Also, do you have the appropriate BIOS files for that core? Load the core, then from the main menu in Retroarch choose the Core Information option. It will detail what additional files it requires and if they are missing. That might be the cause.

Ahh, that will be why. I’ve never touched anything to do with bios, just a core. Can you also download the bios in retroarch?

That’s the problem. Will need to figure out how to get the bios tonight.
