Wii sold 600k in its opening 8 days - http://www.ign.com/articles/2006/11/28/ ... rough-600k
Last year, Nintendo recorded a profit during April to June. This year, however, the company made a net loss of 24.5bn yen (£177m) over the same period.
Still, such losses are far from surprising.
Wii U sales have now slowed to a crawl, with just 220k units shifted over during April, May and June.
As the console draws towards the end of its life, it is still stuck at 13m units sold worldwide - a fraction of the Wii's 100m

The company updated its total lifetime sales figure for the Wii U to 12.8 million, meaning the company sold only 200,000 units of the console in the last three months.

0.72m shipped last quarter -
Wii U hardware sales increased slightly over last quarter, rising from 0.47 million in Q1 2015 to 0.72 million, slightly up on the same period last year in which Nintendo sold 0.61 million. The company says it's still forecast to sell 3.4 million of the consoles by the year's end, the same total it predicted back in May.

Wii U lifetime sales crack 10 million
Nintendo hits major milestone despite selling fewer consoles than expected.
Wii U has finally cracked the 10 million milestone, according to figures released by Nintendo earlier today.
The console, which went on sale in November 2012, managed to sell 470,000 units in the three months between April-June 2015, 40,000 lower than Nintendo's projections, but still enough to take lifetime sales to 10.01m.
The console is most popular in the Americas where it has sold 4.85m units, with Japan accounting for 2.48m. Other territories, including Europe, contribute a combined 2.68m.
Nintendo expects to sell 3.4m consoles worldwide during its current financial year, which runs from April 2015 to March 2016.

The Wii U, however, is still mired in mediocrity. Despite a crop of critically acclaimed releases, the console has managed a paltry 3.03 million sales since April last year, bringing lifetime sales to 9.2 million. Nonetheless, a relatively healthy 20.59 units of Wii U software were sold, showing a strong attach rate amongst the faithful.

Nintendo earnings improve, but Wii U and 3DS sales still slow
Results are 1-UP on last year.
Nintendo earned 171.4bn yen (£981m) in revenue during the past six months, although ended with a total operating loss of 215m yen (£1.2m).
That figure is a vast improvement on the same time last year however, when Nintendo posted a far more dire 23bn yen (£133m) operating loss.
Despite the operating loss, Nintendo managed to post a profit of 14.3bn yen (£82.1m). That's because of positive exchange gains due to the depreciation of the yen.
Nintendo shipped 610,000 Wii U consoles worldwide between July and September, double what it did during the same timeframe last year.
The company pointed to the launch of Mario Kart 8 as a reason for its sales uptick, as well as last month's launch of Hyrule Warriors.
But the company is still a way off of its Wii U hardware forecast. It has currently shipped 1.12m consoles worldwide since April - around a third of its 3.6m year target.
Nintendo has pointed to the upcoming launch of Smash Bros. Wii U and its amiibo figurine range as factors that will boost Wii U sales in the lead up to Christmas.
Worldwide, Wii U has now shipped 7.29m units to date in total. The console launched in November 2012.
3DS hardware numbers were down year-on-year, from 2.49m to 1.27m.
That's despite the recent launch of Super Smash Bros. for 3DS, which shot to 3.22m copies worldwide in less than a month.
Quirky life sim Tomodachi Life was also singled out for praise - it has now sold a total of 3.12m worldwide, following its Western release in June.
But the 3DS will get Pokémon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire in time for Christmas, Nintendo has reassured, while hardware sales will continue to be bolstered by the Japanese and Australian launch of the New 3DS and New 3DS XL.

Nintendo made an operating loss of ¥9.47 billion ($92.7 million) in its first quarter of 2014, with the launch of Mario Kart 8 sparking a bump in Wii U hardware sales that wasn't big enough to boost the company's financial performance. Wii U sales were 510,000 between April and June, a year-on-year jump of 219 percent, as Mario Kart 8 itself moved 2.82 million copies — over half of all Wii U titles for the quarter, and enough to make it the console's third best-selling game of all time. This means that over 80 percent of people who bought Mario Kart 8 were existing Wii U owners before this quarter, so it hasn't yet convinced many newcomers to pick up the console.

Nintendo lowers forecast from ¥55B profit to ¥25B loss.
Nintendo expects 2.8 million Wii-U sales down from 9 million and 3DS from 18 million down to 13.5 million.
3DS Software 80 million -> 66 million and Wii U software 38 million -> 19 million.
Nintendo Co. (7974) revised its forecast for the fiscal year to a net loss of 25 billion yen ($240 million), cutting its projections for the Wii U console and saying year-end software sales were far below expectations.
The world’s largest maker of video-game machines had projected a profit of 55 billion yen as it counted on Christmas shoppers to revive sales of its Wii U. The company cut forecasts for Wii U sales to 2.8 million units from 9 million. Shares traded in Germany fell.
“It is now expected that our sales will fail to meet our previous forecast by a large margin,” President Satoru Iwata said at a press conference today. “We can no longer expect our financial performance to recover in the current fiscal year.”
Nintendo’s family-focused content is losing its appeal as titles were delayed, casual gamers migrate to mobile devices, and hardcore players opt for the faster Sony PlayStation 4 and Microsoft Xbox One. Nintendo also refuses to offer games with its lineup of iconic characters such as Mario and Zelda on mobile devices, limiting its ability to profit from surging demand by online players.
The company cut its forecast for operating income to a 35 billion-yen loss from the prior 100 million-yen profit.
3DS Forecast
Nintendo posted a quarterly loss of 8 billion yen in October after cutting the price of the console in the face of new machines from Sony Corp. (6758) and Microsoft Corp. Iwata also is trying to lure consumers who prefer playing games on tablet computers and smartphones such as Apple Inc.’s iPhone.
“The video-game market has moved into smartphones and tablets,” said Mitsushige Akino, chief fund manager at Ichiyoshi Asset Management Co. in Tokyo. “Nintendo needs to expand from their current hardware business model. It’s a structural problem.”
The Kyoto, Japan-based company cut its forecast for sales of its handheld 3DS player to 13.5 million units from 18 million, and for sales of 3DS games to 66 million units from 80 million. In German trading, Nintendo slumped 7.5 percent to the equivalent of 13,551 yen at 9:03 a.m. in Frankfurt.
Iwata Pressure
The revisions increase the pressure on Iwata, who vowed in October to meet a forecast of 100 billion yen in full-year operating profit and 9 million units in Wii U sales. Nintendo has lost about 80 percent of its market value since the introduction of the original Wii drove shares to a record high of 72,100 yen in November 2007, according to data compiled by Bloomberg.
Its market capitalization is about $20 billion -- less than Samsung Electronics Co. (005930)’s planned capital expenditures.
“The revision is much worse than expected,” Yusuke Tsunoda, an analyst at Tokai Tokyo Securities Co. in Tokyo, said by phone. “It’s going to be a third consecutive annual operating loss and that raises a serious management issue.”
Iwata said he’s considering a new business structure, and any announcement about a pay cut would come later this month when the company releases third-quarter earnings. There are no plans to reshuffle management in the near term, he said.
The company reduced its planned dividend for the fiscal year to 100 yen from 260 yen. Nintendo revised its foreign-exchange assumptions to 100 yen to the dollar from 90 yen, and to 140 yen per euro from 120 yen.
“We were unable to sufficiently take advantage of the weaker yen,” Iwata said.

In August Nintendo announced a Wii U price cut in an attempt to spark sales of the console into life. The decision had a positive impact - in the three month period to 30th September 2013 300,000 Wii Us were sold, almost double the 160,000 sold in the prior three month period, but the wider picture remains bleak.
Today, Nintendo announced the Wii U had sold just 460,000 units worldwide in the six month period to 30th September 2013. That's an average of 76,666 units a month, globally.
Wii U lifetime sales are now 3.91 million. It seems unlikely that Nintendo will meet its nine million sales expectation by the end of its 2014 financial year.

Nintendo UK has remained silent about Wii U sales, but MCV reported first-weekend results of 40,000 consoles. It's a modest sum compared to other launches constrained by the level of stock allocated to the UK, although what did filter through to shop shelves didn't entirely sell out.
Eurogamer has been told by UK numbers firm Chart-Track that, after five weeks on sale, the Wii U's initial sales figure counted for 50.1 per cent of the system's total. This indicates that Wii U sales in the UK were at the 80,000 units mark at the beginning of January.
In terms of money made, it took four weeks for the Wii U to earn £18 million - the amount that the original Wii made in its launch week. That's despite all three Wii U launch bundles costing more, with the most popular Premium bundle priced at least £100 higher per unit.
Software attachment ratios also drive home the fact that, since launch, Wii U has commanded a far lower user base than other recent home console launches.

Nintendo’s Wii U console sold around 40,000 units in its first 48 hours on sale in the UK, MCV understands.
Retail sources suggest that effectively amounts to a complete sellout on the UK High Street. Stock is continuing to filter through to retail at a trickle but abundant supplies are not expected until the New Year.
Undoubtedly sales could have been considerably higher had stocks have been more plentiful.
Furthermore, MCV understands that the console has enjoyed a software attach rate in excess of 2:1.

Nintendo sold more than 1 million hardware units over the last week, the company has confirmed to CNET.
Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime told CNET in a phone interview today that during the last week, its internal data has shown total U.S. hardware sales have reached more than 1.2 million units. That figure includes the Wii U, Wii, 3DS, and DS.
According to Fils-Aime, Nintendo sold over 700,000 consoles during the last week. The Wii U topped the Wii with 400,000 units sold. The Wii, which Nintendo launched all the way back in 2006, was able to muster 300,000 Wii sales during the last week.
"Wii U is essentially sold out of retail and we are doing our best to continually replenish stock," Fils-Aime said. "Retailers are also doing their best to get the product to store shelves. But as soon as product hits retail, they're selling out immediately.
On the portable side, Nintendo sold more than 500,000 hardware units, including 250,000 3DS and 275,000 DS devices. Fils-Aime explained to CNET that the DS outsold the 3DS because of the "significant" deals retailers were offering on Black Friday.
