It's odd how the Metroid franchise seems to be sidelined so often by them, I know it's not the best sales wise (anywhere near), but it's still a superb series of games.

Still waiting for Zero Mission to be added to NSO, played Fusion last week on there, still think Fusion and Dread are better than Super, but not sure if thats because my first game was on the GBA (Zero Mission though)

It's probably the third pillar for me: Mario, Zelda, Metroid.

Pretty much everything else from Nintendo is a lower tier IMO

This.

I'd potentially put it above Mario, if not Zelda, in terms of my preference.

For me it's a major part of Nintendos "Holy Trinity". The three franchises that originated back with the Famicom that are still going and still, mostly, knocking it out of the park with every single entry.

I had a mate with a snes, master system and Atari ST. He'd import a lot of games for his snes, so I'd get to see a lot of new games is never heard of before. Vividly remember watching him play super Metroid at the point where he had the dash ability and thinking it looked amazing.

Metroid Dread gave me some of favourite gaming hours of the past 5 years. A complete joy, even when I was on the verge of slamming a hammer into my Switch Lite at times. It also gave me some gamer pride back when I got through some of the harder parts and bosses (I've never enjoyed boss battles).

Rapidly-greying is Mediocre to Average at games :fp:

I really liked Metroid Dread's bosses - going from "this guy is impossible" to beating them extremely easily once you know their moves and tricks is a really fun experience as a player - usually my first time beating them would also be one where I barely took any damage (as opposed to just scraping through a la Dark Souls).

Prince of Persia TLC also takes Dread's approach, though it's a little easier to cheese them with upgrades and amulets.

Yeah I loved the bosses too. They're basically puzzles to figure out
