I started AM2R tonight. It's just strawberry floating glorious isn't it? It controls PERFECTLY.

I'm a little iffy on the music, though. I've never played the GB original so I can't claim it's a good or bad update but something about it just doesn't seem right. It's perfectly serviceable, though and I'm sure I'll get used to it. Is it the same in the original where there's no music in-game until you fight the first boss then it all kicks in? Thought that was pretty cool.

The music in the original is fairly sporadic. Certain areas have some, others don't. Boss fights always do.

I really need to go back to AM2R. Fantastic reworking of an extremely under-rated game. I say reworking rather than remake, as it adds in a lot of stuff, while still staying faithful to the feel of the original.

I imagine a lot of it is new. The original didn't even have a map, right?

Yeah. It keeps the distinct areas, but it adds in some of the functionality from Super Metroid onwards, most significantly a map.

There are actually parts of the original game that don't make sense. Not very many but a few rooms that if you were to plan them out on a map would overlap. It's a weird thing, which makes it hard to keep straight in your head sometimes. It's great though. Very different from the others in that it's quite linear.

Just got the Viagra Suit. The first boss, the plant thing killed me. (I need health not missiles!!) Finding some of the controls remarkably unintuitive. But its slowly clicking. Took me about 3 hours to work out how to morph ball. :fp: I swear I tried that about 10 times. I'm not use to the aiming with the shoulder buttons and pressing select to change missiles seems bananas but its the Wii U button placement thats the main issue here I think. In the first boss fight I must have selected the map half a dozen times by accident. So quite often I just missed the chance to shoot the weak spot.

Anyway despite it having the irritations I expected (repsawning enemies and having to redo every bloody hidden wall thing each time you want to pass) its bloody awesome. Plus some of the hidden things so far I've found by accident. Such is the lack of any visual clue.

Dunno what some of the symbols mean when you uncover them.

No, the controls are the worst thing about it, they really are dated. See Metroid Fusion/Zero Mission for better controls with less buttons.

It's really annoying that you can't reassign the map and item select button. I just started playing it on the 3DS VC and those are mapped to Start and Select respectively and it's a bit annoying having to reach your thumb right down when you want to change items.

I've just changed it so Y selects rather then cancels on mine.

Just got the Ice Beam. Norfair is a bit of a twat really isn't it? Spent ages running around in circles trying to figure stuff out. Then I shot a bubble and it burst. Yeah. I assume they thought you'd hit it instead of the near by enemies at some point but I'd cleared out the room a few times already. A bit crap that. Really into it though. Bloody hell its atmospheric. :datass:

Just completed it again with 74% completion, missed two energy tanks and weapon capacity upgrades. Best in the series and still one of the best games ever.

I'm stuck. Have got a bit further. Got bombs. I'm now in Brinstar. I saw an energy tank but it trolled me and I fell. Now I'm in a spiked filled corridor (which is one of the most annoying corridors I've ever witnessed) and then there are these little creatures wall jumping. I can't seem to wall jump up with them and I can't seem to go back up to the energy tank.

Ah. You're strawberry floated until you manage to wall jump. It's the games way of telling you, learn to wall jump or turn off the game, you suck.

I suggest you watch some videos on YouTube. You have about 2 frames of animation to do each jump (jump plus opposite direction). It's hard.

Wall jumping is tricky. Make sure your're spinning when you hit the wall, switch directions and hit jump. If you get the timing wrong you'll fall. Get it right and you'll move up. Ironically enough you don't ever really need to be able to do it apart from this one section. It's a technique that really comes into its own when sequence breaking.

How did you get to Norfair and get the Ice Beam without getting the Bombs first?
EDIT: Unless you mean Power Bombs.
