I am bored and so have been messing around reading random articles on Wikipedia. And so I decided to see if I could get to "Bristol" by clicking links from the first random article I clicked.

Ardveenish ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ardveenish ): A village on Barra in the Western Isles of Scotland in the United Kingdom.

United Kingdom ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_Kingdom ): A place on the arse end of Europe, which has an awesome city called Bristol.

Bristol ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bristol ): Greatest city in the world.

I felt I was too lucky by not only getting a location but a British location and so went again.

Frank McPartlin ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Frank_McPartlin ): A professional baseball player in the late 1800s/early 1900s, born in Hoosick Falls.

Hoosick Falls, New York ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hoosick_Falls,_New_York ): A village in New York state. Also the place where the Mohawk attacked Metacom and the site of the British entrenchments in the Battle of Bennington.

Battle of Bennington ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battle_of_Bennington ): A battle during the American Revolution, one of the turning points of the war for the Americans against the Kingdom of Great Britain.

Kingdom of Great Britain ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kingdom_of_Great_Britain ): A shithole country that not even Donald Trump bothers to slander. Now part of the United Kingdom.

United Kingdom ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_Kingdom ): A place on the arse end of Europe, which has an awesome city called Bristol.

Bristol ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bristol ): Greatest city in the world.

Over to you lot! Choose a place/person/object/whatever, click for a random article and see if you can make it to the place/person/object/whatever you chose at the start. Actually read the articles you discover and give a short description (and a link in case we are all interested, learning is fun!).

Obviously this is a very easy game to cheat at, but there are no prizes so you are only cheating yourself.

Well, I support the Boro so I thought I'd go a bit harder than a major city in one of the world's biggest economies, so I thought I would link back to our current goalkeeping coach.

It's this man:

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Leo_Percovich

He is a hit headed Uruguay who likes to start fights with people.

Wikipedia gave me this article as a random start:

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gilbert ... ni#/random

And the journey was pretty interesting:

Good idea. I will try and get to "London"

No Thanks ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/No_Thanks_(poetry_collection) ): A self-published collection of poetry by EE Cummings.

EE Cummings ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/E._E._Cummings ): An American poet, regarded as one of the most important of the 20th Century. He was born in Cambridge, Massachusetts.

Cambridge, Massachusetts ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cambridge,_Massachusetts ): Cambridge is part of the Boston metropolitan area and is the fifth most populous city in the state of Massachusetts. One of its sister cities is Southwark, Greater London.

London Borough of Southwark ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/London_Bo ... _Southwark ): Southwark is the oldest part of South London.

London ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/London ): The capital city of the United Kingdom, home of the British government and a bustling hellhole that you would have to be mad to want to live in.

My objective was to get to Mario Kart: Double Dash's page. Though I had originally considered just going for Nintendo, I wanted something a bit more specific.

The Random Article I got given was Sharon Booth - Australian Swimmer at the 1972 Summer Olympics.

1972 Summer Olympics - A multi-sport event held in Munich, Germany, being the second Summer Olympics to be held.

Summer Olympic Games - A major international multi-sport event held every four years, with the next to be held in Tokyo, Japan.

Tokyo - One of the 47 prefectures of Japan, serving as the capital that was once held by Kyoto.

Kyoto - Considered the cultural capital of Japan, it is the headquarters of Nintendo.

Nintendo - A videogame company who have seen success with its consoles, with a few exceptions such as the Gamecube.

Gamecube - The purple cube that served as Nintendo's sixth generation console, it had many many classic games such as Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker and Mario Kart: Double Dash.

Mario Kart: Double Dash - Second best-selling Gamecube game of all-time, and a personal favourite.

Quite an interesting journey from beginning to end. I might try again, though next time I'll aim for a car brand.

As I was reading the Doctor Who thread, I decided that might be a good objective to aim for. I thought it would be harder than just picking a location, but I was wrong.

Inri Cristo (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Inri_Cristo ): Inri Cristo is a Brazillian religious leader who believes himself to be the reincarnation of Jesus. He worked as a greengrocer, baker, delivery boy, peddler and a waiter before severing all ties to Christianity and becoming an atheist. Then he revealed his true identity. Quite a journey for the new Jesus, but luckily for me he worked in television programs.

Television show (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Television_show ): I think we all know what a television show is. But did you know that the first national live television broadcast in the US was in 1951 when President Truman gave a speech at the Japanese Peace Treaty Conference? No? Now you do! Anyway there is a link to Doctor Who on this page.

Doctor Who (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Doctor_Who ): The Doctor is a white man and will always be a white man as long as James Bond is….oh gooseberry fool….

Isn't it a thing that you can normally always get to the WW2 page in Wikipedia in no more than 3 jumps?

I had a go.

My random article was Viewing Party (an episode of The Office US). This took me Scranton, Pennsylvania, which had a direct link to WW2 in it. I suppose most major places probably link to it.

Oh. Clearly, I never looked at all possible routes that might end up at the destination and barrelled along the first one I spotted. And considering the size of that first article, that's saying something.

Decided to try and find the great Henrik Larsson( ), here we go:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Truxtun_Historic_District - A historic district of the US state of Virginia.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/National_Register_of_Historic_Places_listings_in_Isle_of_Wight_County,_Virginia - A register of historic place listings in Isle of Wight County, Virginia. I was toiling here, all of these articles were stubs, so I picked a random one.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fort_Boykin - A historic fort located in Isle of Wight County, Virginia. It saw combat during the war of 1812, and I saw my chance to get back on track.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/War_of_1812 - A war between the United Kingdom and the United States, just a few decades after American independence. Interesting fact - the British Army sacked Washington during the War of 1812, forcing the Americans to paint the newly built Presidential mansion white, to hide the fire damage. Hence, the White House.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Halifax,_Nova_Scotia - There was no direct link to Nova Scotia, which I hoped would take me back to Scotland, so I used this link to the capital of the Canadian province of Nova Scotia to get me where I needed to go, which was...

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nova_Scotia - or New Scotland. Again, there was no direct link to Scotland on the page here, so I had to go here:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Etymology_of_Scotland - Not much to report, but it finally had a link back to:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scotland - A pretty cool place. And the home country of:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Celtic_F.C. - whose greatest ever Swedish player was:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Henrik_Larsson

strawberry floating hell.

Probably easier to get to than I've made it, but I'm tired.

After posting in Rightey’s food thread, I decided that penicillin would be my next target.

Portugal in the Eurovision Song Contest 1986 (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Portugal_ ... ntest_1986 ) - thanks for that Wiki! Dora’s 1986 entry did not involve exploring but she did finish 14 with just 28 points. Harsh. 4 points were awarded by the United Kingdom though.

United Kingdom in the Eurovision Song Contest (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_Ki ... ng_Contest ) - bloody hell Wikipedia, I was looking for the country, not more Eurovision! Still the UK did win in 1967, 1969, 1976, 1981 and 1997 and in 1972 the contest was hosted in Edinburgh.

Edinburgh (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Edinburgh ) – Auld Reekie doesn’t sound very nice, but it is twinned with Kathmandu which is exotic sounding. Unfortunately it doesn’t appear a certain Mr Fleming ever lived there and so off to Scotland we go.

Scotland (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scotland ) - A country ruled by a Sturgeon and has a Unicorn as its national animal. Strange. Still, they do have Kilmarnock Academy which has educated two Nobel Prize winners, John Boyd Orr and a certain Alexander Fleming who discovered penicillin.

Penicillin (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Penicillin ) - Mmmm blue-green mould. Tasty.

Doesn’t say so in the OP. You can’t change the rules. You just have to accept you’ve been out-played.
