Will we be listening to today's music in 20 years?

Nope, I don't think so anyway. Music from the 70s/80s has lasting appeal, but music from the 90s, 00s doesn't. 90s and 00s music really does suck in comparison.

If you mean Justin Bieber, Lady Ga Ga etc, then no. I don't listen to them now. :lol:

Music is no worse now than at any other time. There's loads of good stuff still being released. No doubt the same question was being asked 10 and 20 years ago.

How does music recorded in the 70s or 80s have lasting appeal compared to anything recorded since? Is there some magic ingredient that disappeared from music production as soon as 1990 rolled around?

Music from the 70s and 80s is a lot more prevalent in highlights reels etc. because the people putting together those highlight reels are over 30 and grew up with it. When the current generation, who grew up listening to more modern stuff start becoming VT editors then you'll hear their favourite tracks.

People are just too blind to look beyond the top 10 which is the problem.

Probably just The Glee Soundtrack.

Look at something like Way to Amarillo (forgot who sung it), because of Peter Kay that was probably more popular in the naughties than when he originally first released it.

The only music from the last 10 years people will listen to in 20 years time is the The tune for the Battlestar Gallactica remake series along with the soundtrack to The Lord of the Rings films and lastly the soundtrack to the Star Trek film from 2009.

Everything else will be wiped from the pages of history.

The music from the 90s was gooseberry fool compared to the 00s. The 80s had a lot of good stuff in there thanks to technology leading to more experimentation in sound, but after that it was mostly bland crap pumped out by cynical stramlined marketing. I think the emergence of the internet as a true force for culture has greatly enhanced the ability of music to concentrate on more than just the mass market and I have high hopes for the 10s as well.

I am a 90s kid, but even I refuse let nostalgia blind me the how terrible the music scene was in those years.

Every decade has gooseberry fool music, it's only the good stuff that stands the test of time. All the dross has (rightfully) been relegated to the Bargain Bin of history.

90's was awesome. StayDead come out of your cave for a sec. :roll:

With a few exeptions, pretty much this. Bands like Blur, Radiohead and Rage Against the Machine will be listened to for a long time to come, but dross like Lady GaGa and Katie Perry will be consigned to history along with that band nobody listens to anymore, and that other band people can't believe they liked when they were younger.

There is still great music out there, but only hardcore audiophiles will go to the effort to seek it out. Everyone else will just listen to whatever is on the radio, so they don't care if it's good or not.

WTF? 90's music is great.. 00's onwards been utter bilge.

Some of those artists will have been the sound of someone's childhood.
