Dislike the awfully dull windows 10 login/lock screen? then use this simple program to set a background of your choosing.

Honestly I think this lock screen is so bad looking. Just like some poor photoshoped logo wallpaper. Looks far nicer with a landscape or a custom personal one.

Agree. Looks like a fan made wallpaper from the early 00s.

Really liking Windows 10. Fixes the annoying things from Windows 8/8.1.

By the way, if anyone switching from Windows 7 is wondering why the hell they have to put up with a lock screen on their pc, you can get rid of it by editing the registry.

First thing I did on my laptop was disable the password login.

Where do I find the product key? I just had to do a fresh install due to a RAID dying.

Couldn't get a key out of MS, they said I'd have to reinstall Win 7 then upgrade again :dread: But I upgraded 10 from home to pro and it seemed to activate it.

When you upgrade a genuine copy of Windows 7/8 to 10 it should activate automatically and will create a system ID for your computer linked to that activation. If you ever need to do a clean install then Windows 10 should activate automatically based on your system ID. There's no need for a product key. The important thing it making sure the first install is activated.

Ah, could be that I had Pro before the Raid dying and that's why it activated after I upgraded from Home.

Why does Windows 10 keep bother me about scheduling restarts? I shutdown every evening, there is more than enough opportunities to install updates unless they are firing the things out in less than twenty-four hours.

FINALLY got my windows 10 icon To appear and I've registered for the upgrade. It says I'll be notified when it's ready, does that mean leaving the PC on for it to download in secret before I'll get a notification or is it a case of it just popping up in my email soon and then I download it?

Hopefully I can get a key out of it to then activate an ISO should I ever need to reinstall.

Because shutdown doesnt shut down in the way it used to in 7, so when updates have been applied it needs to do a "traditional" reboot to updated locked files and stuff.

You won't get a product key because you won't need one.

You can force the update now by downloading the software from Microsoft if you can't wait.

So basically it has been lying when I have shut it down. It's really just going into hibernation. Anyway to make it actually shutdown when I tell it to shutdown?

Kinds yeah. But no there is no way to make it do it, you just have to reboot when it asks. I only ever standby now and reboot when promoted.

Hurrah! Windows 10 is finally downloading. I realised I had windows update set to only check for things when I told it to, so of course it wasn't going to just pick up the download :fp:

I found out how to make Windows shutdown properly. You have to uncheck "fast startup" in the power options. This worked as it applied the updates when I shutdown yesterday. Hurrah. Leave to MS to make an "improvement" that actually wastes more of your time by forcing you to restart unnecessarily.
