I hate Windows 10 so much and Windows 11 is only going to be worse. I need to get the strawberry float out of my job before we have to upgrade all our PCs to that strawberry float that.

What's to hate about Windows 10?

The centralised taskbar is horribly MacOS though :dread:

I wonder if they'll adopt this for Server 2022 or if it'll continue to be based on Windows 10.

Wow, that is defiantly a choice that was made. Of all those programs I would use setting, calculator, netflix and would be made to use the store due to FH4 and FS2020.

I am aware these are the pinned ones but...

I've never used windows 10 so I'm curious as to how it's rubbish.
Surely it's just an OS and you only use it now and then anyway.
How is it worse than the previous versions?

As long as they give prominence to the option to change everything back to normal, I'm all set.

And here we go again, people bitching gooseberry fool changes rather than embrace change.

This is why windows looks like a whiney version of 2000 still because they can't try anything that would actually fundamentally change because people cry like babies.

Also, this should be a new thread.

If you change things for reasons of performance improvements then fine, a facelift on the UI overall to make things cleaner is welcome. My main gripe is the bs that MS do. The enforced updates, the inability to permanently remove apps that I will never use (I am looking at you Phone, Cortana and Edge) the unnecessary news and interests on the toolbar in the last update. In settings there is a recommendation to restore web browser setting, this forces you back to edge as your default browser. It's the insipid small stuff that grates, death by a thousand cuts.

Yes people don't like change and it does reach some high levels of hyperbole but change for changes sake is just as bad. As for not being able to try anything new that is complete bullshit, they just need to understand they have to educate people why there is the change and what improvements it may bring and help them day to day, people will slowly move across when they see the benefit.

In the case of Edge there needs to be a default browser there on install, Apple has Safari, Linux has whatever the distro decides to install.

Forced updates are good, its about security, if you dont update you have security holes.

I think it looks nice, although as with mobile phone promo images they're sneaky by putting a big nice image in there to make the overall thing look much better than it really is. Take that background image away and see how nice it looks then.

Mobile images are a bastard for this, they do a great job of hiding things like camera cut ins and what not in the background images.

It's the best Windows yet. The only step back I find really is how the deeper administration stuff is handled now.

They split your settings across two settings options now...
  • you have the settings "app" which handles the very basic stuff now in a cute family applefication friendly way. It's basically totally useless and it's a pain in the ass when you want to be working on two different settings pages at once like "windows update" and "mouse cursor" options because the app can only handle one at any time and so I am often going back and forth between the same options. I can see this is useful to tech novices though and it's the reason it's there. It just makes it more difficult for people who want more from a computer.
  • then you have the classic control panel settings which tend to have the stuff you need but you have to go through the very basic app stuff first most times because that's what is pushed throughout the OS

I am informed by those who have ruined their life (parents) that no one under the age of 20 is using Windows any more. It’s all Chromebook and much less so MacBook Airs. Got to be worrying for Microsoft if there’s a whole generation out there now where Windows means nothing. To us it’s still ubiquitous with computers.

People (at home) stoping using Windows wont worry Microsoft all that much I dont think, compared to buisiness use of Windows, Azure, 365 etc. the income form Home User Windows is probably peanuts.

And if people want to game on PC they still pretty much need Windows. Linux is making improvements but is still a LONG way off being close to a fully valid alternative to Windows.

I've had a Chromebook since the start of 2015 (that's why I haven't used windows 10) and while I like it, it is extremely limited.
I upgraded to a better device at the start of 2018 but it's still pretty much just a web browser.
I can't play games on this other than phone style games which I have zero interest in but it does the job I need so I'm happy enough.

I can see how anyone with even modest expectations may be super disappointed though.

Cloud might change that pretty sharpish with the likes of XCloud in browser and Stadia, but even that works for Microsoft as its their service you are likely to be using :D
