The storage must be upgradable surely? Is it not just a case of it being one of those M.2 cards instead of a traditional 2.5” drive? Although if this device only cost £200 then an M.2 drive will be about half the cost of the thing

Seems like Microsoft are just giving up on Windows as their market share declines.

I remember when everyone had a Windows PC at home, now it's increasingly all about Android and Apple.

By the time Nadella's done Microsoft will no longer be a household name.

No way. If you want a PC at home it isn't going to be Android. If you are on a budget or want a bigger range of software, it isn't going to be Apple. If you are a business, your workers will be using Windows.

That's the thing though, most people don't want that, it's all about iPads for them. Kids HAVE to have an iPad at high school (don't see the appeal myself) and get most of their work done on them.

Microsoft are talking about AI focus, but from a consumer standpoint it's all about Google Assistant, Alexa and Siri. People at work are oblivious to Cortana and react like I've performed voodoo magic when I use it to find programs on their PC.

Sounds like Microsoft should do the honourable thing and pull out of the software business.

If it wasn't for gaming I would happily use Linux.

However, I don't think MS is going to 'abandon' Windows any time soon. It might simply end up giving it away for free or close to free to home users and using it as a vehicle for a) promoting services like Office 365 and b) providing continuity for people who use Windows for work and keeping people inside the ecosystem.

As things like chromebook become more popular I suspect MS will be compelled to drop charging OEMs for Windows. Windows does not offer as much compelling reasons for consumers to choose it now so I would suggest making products that run Windows cost more than their competitors is a mistake.

I still run Windows 7 on my PC, does everything i need it to so i've never seen the point in changing it.

I think Nadella wanted to focus on the business market. Didnt he once say that he wanted to sell Xbox off to someone else.

I put a script on my work computer that constantly changes the 'Active Hours' setting so that the update can't automatically run. Problem is Windows will just ignore your settings after a week or two and install the update anyway

I guess Windows isn't going anywhere from a business perspective, the vast majority of people at my company use Windows PC with only a couple of people in marketing having Macs.

We've started rolling out convertible tablets too to replace laptops, but rather than iPads and Chromebooks we've gone with Surface and Dell Latitudes

Rounded corners are back! Also coming to the next Xbox.

Microsoft is making a minor design change to future versions of Windows, with rounded corners returning to their operating system later in 2019.

The latest screenshot from Zac Bowden, Senior Editor of Windows Central, also reveals the new-look Search app.

This new look won’t just be coming to Windows 10, with Bowden revealing that “The rounded corners are coming to 'Fluent Design'. You'll see it all over Windows, Xbox, Office, and other products in the coming months/years.”

Really liking the look of the new (default?) light theme with the light grey task bar and start menu, reminds me of the Windows 95 days

I do miss being able to navigate quickly using the sub-menus.

Visually, I think Windows 95 has aged better that XP, Vista and 7.

The glossy skeuomorphic look is hideous now where as 95 holds up well.

I didn't mind the transparency, although it did always feel a bit pointless.

Some of the recent stuff coming out about Windows 10 does sound exciting though. The new Windows Terminal sound excellent, an area that has been needing attention for about 20 years. PowerShell was always a half arsed effort that really should have been ditched a long time ago! Bundling a full Linux kernel into the OS is a great move as well.

I always preferred a Linux environment for dev work but it has been getting annoying to try and maintain both Windows and Linux systems for a while now - I don't have the time to juggle and customise each one to my liking as much as I used to. Some of this is making me think that I'll be able to do most of what I want just with Windows going forward which is excellent news!
