The final went to overtime in Vancouver, so I guess it could've been anyone's game at that point.

Just watched the opening ceremony. Thought it was good, it didn't have anything as spectacular as the forging of the Olympic ring in London but the floor direction and projection was miles better. The projections or however they did it were really spectacular, the colour when they did the Basilica thing was awesome. It seemed a bit odd that when doing the history segment they neglected to have anything in their about the last 20 years.

As the commentator said during it and from what I've learnt from my family, Russia hasn't really changed all that much in the past 20 years. The soviet union disbanded but for the general public of the country not much really changed. They gained a few more freedoms but that was about it.

My favourite bit from it, even though it was the most poignant was the way they used the incredibly bright lights to symbolise all the 27 million Russians who died during WW2. It's just horrible to even think about all the people who lived in Russia at that time, if you got drafted into the army as a young man or woman which was very likely or you'd get thrown in jail then drafted anyway your survival chance was near 0. I mean it was bad for everyone, but the criminally underequipped Red Army was a death trap and the fact anyone managed to survive it is an amazement to me.

An American bobsledder had to smash through a jammed bathroom door inside the Sochi 2014 athletes' village on the opening day of the Winter Games.
Johnny Quinn became trapped in his room after a shower and, unable to raise help, simply burst through the door.
"With no phone to call for help, I used my bobsled push training to break out," tweeted Quinn, 30.
Separately, GB bobsledder Bex Wilson emerged from her athletes' village room to find an open lift shaft.

"Paula Walker nearly didn't have her brakewoman after walking out into this," wrote Wilson, captioning a photo of the open shaft. Walker and Wilson form the British two-woman bobsleigh team in Sochi.
Quinn's US team-mate, Justin Olsen, wrote on Facebook: "My team-mate and room-mate had an issue with our door. I knew something would happen.
"I wasn't there to help him out, at the gym. Trust me, he tried everything."
The Sochi Games have had various problems with the provision and build quality of accommodation for athletes and journalists attending the Olympics.
Reporters arriving in Sochi over recent weeks have documented unusual 'twin' toilet installations, unfinished hotels and problems with water and electricity supply.

The Ice Skating is on now if anyone's interested. I don't really like it to be honest, routines seem to go on forever.

All of these athletes are going to have knee replacements by the time they're 40. It looks so bad for the knees

Impressive though.

Japanese lady was robbed in that event, the American was all over the place, no way did she deserve the bronze.

Slope Style is cool and all but talk of extra funding and facilities is a bit ridiculous. We're not a winter sport country, should be able to just enjoy the competition without loads of daft talk about legacy.

Yeah shame about the Japanese lass, thought she was good and in with a shout. At least I called the Canadians right.

We don't have enough money to fund all events across Summer/Winter Olympics to the extent that people would like. As much as it would be good to have more people into snowboarding and more GB competitors at the next Olympics, it all depends on how it stacks up to other sports and our likelihood for success in them (I'm thinking compared to our key summer events like sailing, rowing and cycling).
