Hi!

I have a PS4 & Pro. Work has meant i'm not posting as often but i'm definitely here. Will possibly get Wipeout when it's discounted over the Christmas holidays.

I'm finding the A+ 10 lap races in 2048 to be incredibly frustrating. Every single time I start to get ahead and I'm the lead I get mullered by a barrage of missiles and rockets. Then everyone zooms by in a big group and I end up in last place playing catch up again. Also just get bumped all over the place. I swear the AI shifts too the side sometimes just to hit me off the track as I'm overtaking, like it has a sixth sense.

I haven't played a Wipeout game since Wip3out so I don't know any of the tracks. :(

Still, absolutely fantastic game. Just wish it had more classic Wipeout songs, really missing Xpander.

When I first started with HD I absolutely hated Chenghou Project and Sebenco Climb but now that I've unlocked Meltdown, I've had enough practice to get round them without pinballing off the walls. Sebenco Climb is really satisfying when you get through those corners smoothly.

Phantom speed though. :dread:

I haven't even got to events above Flash yet! Need to do some racebox events on Phantom, it's the only way I'll get back into the groove. Anything less is like playing Doom on something below Ultraviolence. Urgh

So this is £13 on the store today. Also, it's Wednesday. Just saying.

PSVR update coming early 2018

https://blog.eu.playstation.com/2017/12 ... ee-update/

Now, prepare to see the world of WipEout in a whole new way as you blast round Omega Collection’s tracks in PS VR. Check out the first trailer above!

And this isn’t a separate slice of gameplay: you can race in every track, across every game mode, off or online, with this free PS VR update.

But not only that: we’ve created three new ships for PS VR pilots, featuring a special cockpit view for PS VR that includes head tracking, so you can check out the interiors of the new ships and see the futuristic racecourses like never before. And as you can now enjoy the game’s blistering soundscape in full 3D audio, this’ll be the most immersive WipEout experience ever.

But that’s not all: we’ve also created new ships that are exclusive for you PS VR pilots, and we’re also happy to announce that this update will also include the new remix of “Shake It” from our recent competition winner Vieille Griffe.

You’ve been asking for it, and now we are almost ready to give it to you. WipEout Omega Collection will be playable on PSVR in early 2018.

Buying today. And a big bucket to keep at the side for the inevitable vomitting.

Edit: does anyone know if the PSN price of £15.99 is a special offer or the new rrp?

It’s a special offer, Rex. The launch price was £29.99.

For a start, it's the full game. There are no cutbacks, no compromises, no reductions in content - it's simply a virtual reality alternative to the existing ways you can play the game, to the point where VR players can indulge in multiplayer games alongside normal PS4 and Pro users. We're still in the process of producing our platform comparisons, but there's no sense that we're being visually short-changed either. After all, WipEout Omega Collection ran locked at 4K resolution at 60 frames per second on PlayStation 4 Pro, suggesting plenty of GPU overhead in accommodating PSVR's 1080p display.

In fact, we can confirm that super-sampling is in effect, meaning that the often jaggy appearance you find in PSVR titles is reduced significantly. PS4 Pro renders natively at 1620p before downsampling to the visor's 1080p display - not quite 4K then, but we have to remember that the overall workload of VR is significantly higher. In producing a stereoscopic 3D image, the whole image is effectively rendered twice with a slight offset.

Similar to the existing versions of the Omega Collection, frame-rate is locked at 60 frames per second, with motion interpolation incorporated to support PSVR's 120Hz screen - though similar to other titles that use this technique, there is still noticeable 'ghosting', particularly on fast lateral movement. But the key aspect here is the consistency - after several hours of play, we've not noticed any drops to performance.

No way will I risk playing this! I'm still finding my sea-legs with Skyrim VR. But if anybody gets it I'd love to know what they think of the experience.

My plan is to give it a shot over the long weekend (And finish Moss as well) so I'll post my impressions once I've got them.

It looks and plays like a dream
I feel pretty confident calling it one of the best PlayStation VR titles to date, right up there with Resident Evil 7. The cockpit view in VR is so good -- not just to look at, but to play -- that I'll have a tough time going back to the old standard.

Just ordered this from Smyths for £14.99. My psvr is due some love and Wipeout 2097 was one of the earliest games I got on my PS1. Think I bought it with my first paycheck infact.

I love how two of my favourite games from the mid 90s, Resident Evil and WipEout have gone on to spawn two of the best VR experiences 20 years later.
