I've erase the harddrive on my MacBook Pro with OSX 10.9.5.

I'm trying to install a clean version of the OS so I call sell it, but during the set up it wont continue without me entering my itunes information. How can I set it up so it doesn't have any information of mine?

Can you use the Online Internet Recovery system to install the version that is tied to the hardware?

Searching on line it looks like you can Hold down the Command+Option+r keys at start up until you see a Spinning Globe in the enter of the screen, and reinstall the OS tied to the hardware without an ID

This is what I use: http://www.euroffice.co.uk/product/5-St ... Un9K_m6eUk

I'd say you've already done enough if it behaves like a new one when you turn it on.

At the moment I can only boot in recovery or from my external recovery disk. I couldn't give it away in this state.

Could you not just set up a fake Apple ID and then pass on the details when you sell it?

Can you just go ahead with your own ID then remove it afterwards?

I'll try this once more, but in the past it just reloaded all of my data again, all my files and such. But this time I wiped my drive first so maybe, just maybe...

Sounds like you have the firmware password protected.

I found this on the support forum:
If you see a lock screen when trying to start up from installation media or in Recovery mode, then a firmware password was set by the previous owner, or the machine was remotely locked via iCloud. You'll either have to contact the owner or take the machine to an Apple Store or another service provider to be unlocked. You may be asked for proof of ownership.
Launch Disk Utility and select the icon of the internal drive—not any of the volume icons nested beneath it. In the Partition tab, select the default options: a GUID partition table with one data volume in Mac OS Extended (Journaled) format. This operation will permanently remove all existing data on the drive.
After partitioning, quit Disk Utility and run the OS X Installer. If you're installing a version of OS X acquired from the App Store, you will need the Apple ID and password that you used. When the installation is done, the system will automatically restart into the Setup Assistant, which will prompt you to transfer the data from another Mac, its backups, or from a Windows computer. If you have any data to transfer, this is usually the best time to do it.
Then run Software Update and install all available system updates from Apple. To upgrade to a major version of OS X newer than 10.6, get it from the Mac App Store. Note that you can't keep an upgraded version that was installed by the original owner. He or she can't legally transfer it to you, and without the Apple ID you won't be able to update it in Software Update or reinstall, if that becomes necessary. The same goes for any App Store products that the previous owner installed—you have to repurchase them.

I don't fully understand what that's saying.

After partitioning, quit Disk Utility and run the OS X Installer.

This is exactly what I've done, I spent that last 24 hours waiting for it do a 7 pass erase then then I tried the OS X installer, and that's the stage I'm at now, with it asking for an itunes log in. So I've put my details in, and I'll see how much of my data was automatically installed this time.

Looks like this actually did the trick, turns out I was being paranoid: they needed my ID to download the OS, but didn't attach it to the machine, it's going into setup when I boot it now. Perfect!

Thanks for your help guys. Wish they made it more obvious what they were using my ID for, but at least it works now!
