Oh dear...

In my experience the late adopters are often ill-informed, and no amount of reason will shift them. Just the other day I saw someone insist that the PS3 had "better graphics" than the 360, when of course careful analysis shows that - broadly speaking - there is little or no discernible difference, and neither platform appears to have a consistent graphical edge.

The reason for this assumption simply seems to be that it came out later and it costs more, so the PS3 must be better. :fp: So a pricecut is unlikely to challenge that assumption, and thus doesn't seem like it'll make that much of a difference.

PS3 seems to have become the chosen console of the willfully ignorant*, which bugs the hell out of me. I wouldn't mind so much if people would take a look at the ups and the down, and choose the PS3 because they genuinely prefer the exclusives. Or that it's a superior media-center. Or that they believe the 360 hardware to be unreliable, or even because it offers free online multiplayer. To hear of people buying it because of the PlayStation name is tantamount to mental cruelty, though.

*This is unfair, of course. All of the consoles do 'ave 'em.

Spot on. I saw a guy in Truro dame during the summer staring at a demo pod and claiming "wow the ps3 is a step up" or something. The dofus was looking at a 360 but had convinced himself it wa a PS3 and thus must look better than the 360. I bet you he has it hooked up to and SDTV and has never bloody realised what it looks like in HD.

the brand is powerful.

In the US though that seems to be changing and the price cut has boosted sales.

The prices mentioned before are right.
Arcade = £130
Premium 60gb = £170
Elite = £230

Not bad at all for the new premium.

Those are great prices.

Well worth paying just £130 to get access to some of the best games this gen.

I really don't see the point of the Elite anymore. To me it just means there is a top end unit a bit too close to the PS3 price.

The Elite is now pointless if you ask me as 60GB is enough for most people.

Fantastic bundle, puts the £230 bundle I got from GS to shame. :( (Too Human & Mercs 2)

Totally. Scrap it and keep clear daylight between the pro and the PS3. Gives it a decent edge I'd think.

Agreed. The only good to come from it was the 120gb HDD, which I'm hoping MS will re-release a t a lower price point/with a 12month sub to live.

Having said that, I expect a lot of people to pissed off by the fact that the 60gb hard drive is really only 50gb. :lol: :|

I agree with your sentiments but I don't think it's that easy nowadays. The PlayStation brand excelled at courting exclusives, one of the major factors creating this historic brand loyalty but today that strategy has been cast aside, left to internal studio's to pick up the slack.

Downloadable movies, eventually full game installs, the hideous amount of XBLA games being released and the plethora of DLC all add up pretty quickly.

But no! You got that too :x

Probably too much to hope for, but are there price cuts for any of the 360 accessories?
