Here's my thinking now:

Tawny sprung to mind and was perhaps a bit too reckless a guess but I was hopeful. Now I'm a bit stuck as I have only two guesses left and I'm pretty sure that with my remaining letters -

FHIJOPQRUVXZ, plus potential additional appearances from ATY

- there are more than two remaining possible real words. So I don't think I can realistically get this in five now, as it'd be a case of me taking a total guess and hoping, which could work out, but could also just as easily result in a fail.

So I'm thinking now that it's better for me to not try to get the outright answer with guess 5, and instead go for a tactical guess to rule out / rule in other possible letters, giving me a better chance of getting it in six.

I went through a very similar thought process and had to decide whether to go for the guess or rule out as many letters as possible. I chose poorly.

I actually posted this then realised the T is in a position already confirmed :fp:

so I therefore learn nothing. I deleted the post but then realised that's not possible in Wordle and totally against the point so here it is again, though in hindsight I'm now thinking I should have gone with something like PARTS or FARTS (lol) on the basis that an additional vowel is very unlikely and it's worth ruling in/out those remaining possible consonents.

I think it's TATTY - the three Ts being the reason Mori has posted it, but in reality I'd never use my final guess on it.

Bollocks.

I can't think of any other words it could be so in my head it's a 50/50 split now.

I'll go TATTY on the basis that I'm now wondering if TAPPY is even really a word, plus I'll feel worse about not trying to identify a central T with my fifth guess if it does end up being this and I don't go for it.

Yeah that is an absolute bastard of a Wordle word. :lol:

It's interesting to think about how many approaches there are to the game, though. Generally speaking even if I get a few yellows or even greens on guess 1, I'll still try to pick a word with five different letters on guess 2. I suppose my strategy is more about ensuring I definitely get the right answer in six, rather than taking risks in the hope I'll get it in two or three guesses (which is obviously more satisfying!)

Also, the fact that this topic is in Games rather than Stuff, plus Wordle's frequent inclusion in articles within the Gaming sections of many mainstream media outlets (including The Guardian, The Metro, Kotaku and Polygon, just based on what I've read personally), means that this is officially A Game, so I've included it on my GRAlphabet list. :shifty:
