In my head they should be the other way around. I decided that since I can easily see the difference between the yellow and green when they're side by side so I'd stick with normal mode. It turns out when I only have yellows it's easy to see them as green :fp:

Exactly, man! I would prefer the blue/orange to be the other way around but I'm gonna stick with it as - much like yourself - if I only have yellow letters then I see them as green. It caught me out big-time today!

Got it on the 5th today but only after reading about double letters being allowed.

Third guess, but I admit I saw the chat about today’s word and it’s particular quirk.

It’s downright bizarre that it isn’t listed in the rules, as that throws the whole thing off. The board should have a way of indicating a letter appears twice. An asterisk next to the letter, or something.

I mean it’s free, so can’t complain too much.

Why should the game indicate if a letter appears twice? The rules are perfectly consistent as they are, notifying you of a double letter would make the game even easier. You just have to keep it in mind when guessing.

Yeah the double letter is fine, there needs to be some challenge to it!

Indicating a letter appears twice would make double lettered words too easy.

I am not saying that words such as that should not be included, but I think a rule should be present to say that these situations can occur. A key part of the game is highlighting that a letter appears in the word, and if that letter in a correct or incorrect place. With the reminder not currently listed, and the game automatically choosing to tell you only one location of a particular letter, it does not necessarily fully abide by this rule which is the basis for the game. From a usability perspective, the method in which the keyboard is colour-coding does not help in this situation.

This is different to an alternate spelling, because an alternate spelling does not impact the baseline rules of the game.

All I am saying is that a single bullet-point reminder would be useful which mentions this caveat, that's all. It's a free game, so I'm not expecting it to be fixed or whatever. I'm just providing a suggestion (not expecting anyone to listen) as to what could make it better.

I don't understand why you would ever assume words with repeated letters are excluded though, so I'm not sure a reminder is necessary. The game tells you if a letter is in the right or wrong place and the colour coding rules are never contradicted by a letter appearing twice.

This is a classic game, usually played with numbers. Of course there could be duplicates.

What would be interested is, for a word with two As, if you entered AAAAA, would two of them show green and the rest grey? Or would two of them be green and the rest yellow?

I'd hope for the former as I agree the latter would be misleading.

Got it in five that was a tough one. I feel like an idiot looking at the letters and trying to think up possible words.

Amusement under late capitalism is the prolongation of work.

It'd knock back AAAAA as it's not a word.

But theoretically, yes, the former.

I tested this with today's puzzle, and you can see that two of the Bs are marked as green/yellow, but the redundant third one is grey.
