That might be a bit much, but I've always wondered why turf roofs haven't been more common. Look at any city from above and look at all the empty space going unused on the tops of buildings. Wouldn't it do some good to cover that in turf, shrubs, and other plants? Would it not help to insulate building roofs and combat, at least a bit, our carbon emissions?
I've got a feeling that would prove impractical. Wouldn't you need all kinds of living gubbins in the soil to maintain the turf? I'm not sure how keen I'd be on the need to keep a roof full of various insects over my head.
