We have one of those Henry ones, and as I speak I have a Henry mug in front of me. I'm my own worst enemy.

Do you have all the metal extension tubes. You should stack them so you are using the floor/carpet attachment at your actual height instead of bending over. That's what hurts.

Also consider getting a decent battery handheld one (Dyson, Shark etc). Bending over to unplug a Henry from the wall and then lugging it upstairs can get in the bin.

They're absolutely fantastic vacuums. But yes. We have a smaller one called Jonathan I carry about and my low/hi power version is in the workshop for regular vacuuming and sawdust extraction.

Thing is the lead is massive and they never get stuck so it's far less of a ballache to just drag the thing around than an upright.

The vast majority of vacuums I've ever used are absolute shite. It's painful to use anyone else's.

I've opened one up as I hoovered up a crap load of polystyrene beads from a bean bag without the filter in and the 2 stage vacuum fan / spindle / commutator / motor (manufactured by Lamb) is bloody massive.

The carbon brushes are also enormous and would take years of continuous daily use to wear down. When it eventually wears out the whole part can be replaced for around £50 and are still manufactured here. There are so many out there that there's an almost limitless aftermarket for spare parts.

Good buy. I saw one reduced at a local Tescos to £75 open box or something and massively regret not getting one for my mum as she drops so much stuff and her current vacuum does about close to strawberry float all, I can't believe these things are sold as vacuum cleaners.

I would agree that if you can, don't skimp. I bought a £50 vacuum from Asda just after graduating and it was garbage.

Because I have 2 cats that moult a lot, I have 2 vacuum cleaners. I use a Henry to get rid of surface dirt, stray cat litter/cat biscuits etc, then I have a Vax upright that I use for the ingrained hair, because it has a decent brush bar. I can't use the Vax for the larger surface stuff, because it tends to clog instantly when I do that.

Cooking can be fun depending on the dish. I take a 'clean as you go' approach, while you're waiting for things to boil/cook before adding the next thing. And then at the very least rinse the dishes after as well; much harder to clean after things dry out and get stuck on there. gimme that no context

Bathrooms are the worst imo, like cleaning the shower leaves me feeling like I need a shower.

I would like to amend my answer to "clearing a blockage in the outside drain"

I had to do that job whilst listening to Arsenal blow the league against West Ham :x

I ended up buying like 24% HCl (it had visible fumes). The blockage was so deep in the pipe so I had to stick my arm in really far. So far in fact that the acid got inside my gauntlets - itchy :dread:
