Worst recent game?

The campaign in halo infinite really didn't do for me either.

I enjoyed quite a lot about Halo Infinate but the boss fights were one thing I wasn’t keen on.

I understand a lot of people may not get on with certain games, but are people here really calling the likes of It Takes Two, Halo: Infinite and Elden Ring the worst games they have played in recent memory? Really? I'm highly suspicious about that.

Even if you don't get on with a certain game or campaign, surely the fact it's polished and relatively bug-free would exclude it from being the worst game. I bought and played State of Decay and Watch Dogs recently - although I didn't get on with them personally and gave up fairly quickly, but I can't class them as the worst game I've played recently since I see their merit.

Well worst is only ever in comparison right, it depends what games someone has played recently. I could call a game I think is really good the worst I have recently played if I also think every other game I have played recently is even better.

That's true. I do get that point that some people may only play the crème de la crème. For me personally, although I may be disappointed with a game I'd be wary of classing it as one of the worst games I've played. I guess I'm just conscious of the fact that doing so could come across as an inflammatory remark by putting down an otherwise well-reviewed game.

I do genuinely think Dragon Quest XI is a bad game.

For what it’s worth I have beaten it and while there were parts I enjoyed I felt overall the game was just a bit too long and way before the time I’d fought my 4th Magma Wyrm I just wanted it done.

When I finished it I wasn’t happy I’d beaten it but relieved it was over. I’m not sure these type of games are for me any more but I can’t seem to help myself.

Looking on Metacritic, Gran Turismo 7 is currently on 87 from the critics, personally I don’t think it’s anywhere near what you expect for a game scoring 87%…. As I said it’s not a bad game but it’s definitely the worst recent game I’ve played probably in a couple of years for myself. Of course there’s some who love it and probably dislike games I’ve got a lot of enjoyment from (I know that, quite rightly some people didn’t like the remakes of Pokémon Diamond and Pearl as they were bare bones remakes and had a fair few glitches in at launch), it’s a very subjective matter.

GT7 is a solid game it just hides that content behind some of the worst decisions imaginable.

I think the main problem for myself, besides the in game micro transactions, rigged daily gift etc is that the racing is dull, it looks gorgeous even on a base spec PS4 and the cars feel ok to drive but the racing is the main draw and it just doesn’t do it for me, starting X seconds behind the car in front and subsequently a heap of time behind the leader with a small handful of laps to catch up and win is just really repetitive, they could have at least mixed it up with random grid starts, qualifying, proper rolling starts and then a few of the drawn out rolling starts we have but every race is the same! I’m not against starting at the back (quite often I do in F1 if I’m doing a race in GP mode) as its fun to make your way through the field, but every single time? Not for me

The worst thing is I can’t remember if this was an issue in previous GT games or if it’s more exclusive to GT7, maybe I was just more forgiving when I was younger as I had more free time than now.

It is a solid game though, even though I’m complaining about it

Yeah, Infinite was so weird in the sense that the gunplay was really great but the campaign really lacked anything memorable and was quite souless.

I can appreciate that people like different games to me and that my tastes are not the same as others but damn it if I can think of any reason why anybody would enjoy The Outer Wilds.

It won all these awards and plaudits and yet I found it one of the worst games I have ever played.

It was also marketed against a game set in space so was bound to be utterly crushed in sales.
What kind of person doesn't buy the game set in space?

I didn’t get on with The Outer Wilds either, it was one of those games where I really wanted to enjoy it but once I played it, I just wondered what the hype was about.

I found it, without exaggeration, revelatory. The way progress is through player knowledge, the mechanically inventive environments as puzzles, the broad exploration of sci-fi concepts in an intuitive, playful presentation. I can see it not being to everyone's taste in gameplay or thematic genre, but surely the things it does that make it notable are plain to see!

I'm still suspicious that people are confusing World's and Wilds when criticising the latter!
