Would you show interest in a game if the console booted to it?

Anything to do with games at all.

Interesting... So, for those who are against it, would anything make you reconsider? A certain type of game, a revised menu system, or is it specifically the platform in a platform you are against?

I think everyone apart from me has focused on the idea of it being the console's front end. Nobody wants that.

But an open world shared between games has promise. Let's focus on that.

I like the idea of an initial introduction to the console being a playable thing, like astrobot, but I know I'd tire of it as an on going thing eventually and just want to go straight to my games as quickly as possible. I can't imagine having to go in to astrobot every time I want to go in to tomb raider as an example.

I'm 100% about having a console UI experience that is as lightweight and unobtrusive as possible. It's why I really like the Switch UI because it puts the minimal amount of interaction and fluff in between me and the thing I'm actually interested in: games!

I think everyone has focused on that because that's what the thread is about.

It doesn't have to be.

I can't remember, did you ever use a Quest headset? Not sure if the Rift may have had the same. They had an interactive tutorial thing that was the first thing you experienced on initial start up, but it was a one and done affair, and given it was likely to be a user's first experience of VR, made sense.

The trouble is, even as an open world game you use to navigate between other games, you're still replacing a menu, with something that is not a menu, but instead functions as one in a really clunky way.

You could still have traditional menus. I'm thinking of it like a Forza Horizon-style playground, where you drive about and pick your activities based on what you find (enabled by a map and fast travel).

You want to race cars? Get in a car, find some other drivers (where they're likely to hang out) and challenge them, and the race begins (also thinking along the lines of Burnout Paradise City). In the same world, but you want to play a shooter - whip out your weapon and open fire. Whoever joins in is your opposition. Stealth game - stick up a Wanted poster on a busy street, then go and hide. You could see other players' games in progress, but have limits on how much you can interact, so trolls can't wreck the games.

It might not work, but it's got potential.

No, because if you throw a banana in rinksworld then you are forced to play Fruit Ninja for an hour.
