Best pad was the Megadrive six button pad designed for Streetfighter. The japanese Saturn six button pad was also ace, I think they bought it over to the UK with the 2nd version of the Saturn. The first six button Saturn pad was truly awful.

There's nothing more irritating than selecting the wrong weapon though is there? Especially when you're in a tight spot.

Anyway, this is all about Street Fighter IV.

So far this year, I have eaten NO mince pies.

Yes it was excellent, how could we forget?

The lack of decent games I suppose. :(

SNK vs Capcom is still the best handheld fighting game (imo).

The best d-pad has to be the playstation one, it just feels right

The worst ones include the tiny gamecube one and the overly protruded dreamcast one

It is nice that MS are addressing issues though, by the time the next console is out it will probably give gamers everything they want, this can only be a good thing?

I'm sure I can cope with my standard 360 controllers.

He meant the game - it's PES 09.

I've always disliked the PS d-pad due to the seperated points. Nintendo's proper + shape has always been best (apart from the GC incarnation), although I don't think others have been able to copy it due to legal reasons.

I don't know how this will effect me as I hate any thing that is positiioned in that place wether it be the PS3 analouge or the 360 Dpad.

Microsoft has confirmed our earlier report that it plans to release a new Xbox 360 controller with an improved d-pad on 24th October.

However, the new pad is "a limited edition promotional item that is only available in Europe, Asia and Latin America while supplies last", which is likely to upset fans who feel the d-pad needs full-time replacement rather than a one-off patch for PES.

Seems a little odd to replace the pad for a limited time

Seems like an odd way to do things. Testing the water to see if the demand is big enough to make it standard perhaps?

Eurogamer said this too:
Speaking to Eurogamer at Games Convention, one third-party publisher told us that the pad was also designed to work with Street Fighter IV, so perhaps it will turn up again next year.

It seems pretty logical to assume it will. MS spent money designing a new d-pad, they'll want to make that back, and they know a portion of the hardcore audience are going to go out and re-buy controllers because of it. It''ll be a limited run now, but standardised in all 360 controllers next year - wait and see.

Hardly worth purchasing a new controller just for this feature, but if it is better than the current dpad, it is a welcome change. it is the only aspect of the current controller which lets it down to be honest.

Yes and no.

I hated the GC pad, not just for the size but laso the 'clickyness'. The DC pad I was comfortable with as soon as I held it (had a third party pad included with my DC though, that was awful - it was gorilla hand size - someone bought it off me on ebay and never left feedback  ) and it was (I think) the first pad to have triggers?

I believe it was, yes.
