The PS2 at that point(ish) had Okami, FFXII, GoW II, Tomb Raider Anniversary, Burnout Revenge, Hitman Blood Money.

One big thing has changed for me from 8 years ago. At that time I was excited about the launch of a new console that I had pre-ordered. This time, not so much.

First console I got on day 1. Loved PGR3 so much. Online wasn't new to me at all bit it was handled so well in comparison to the previous consoles online.

On a side note, I was one of those people that took my Dreamcast online. Those. Phantasy Star. Online bills :dread:

The other thing the 360 persuaded me to do was to get a HDTV.

Same. I got mine for my birthday in April 2006.

There was quite a solid online community when the 360 came out (having all got the service with PGR2, Halo 2, Rainbow Six etc.) and it was a pain when most of these guys got one at Christmas 2006.

Fortunately I was living away from home and couldn't get my console online anyway. I got PGR 3 and Ghost Recon in my bundle. The former was awesome, but just didn't have the community that its predecessor had on here.

I managed to pick up PDZ, Kameo, Condemned and Dead or Alive 4 for £20 off ebay a week or so after I bought it too. Will probably adopt a similar tactic for the next-gen.

I can't remember what the 360 and those games cost me, but it was sub-£300 I think. I am not going to be paying £500 for these new ones in a month.

Geometry Wars opened my eyes to XBLA and was the first of many great times I had with digital downloads on 360 :D

Pre-ordered and bought at launch for Christmas. Game tried to change their mind about a 5 game bundle as the games worked out significantly cheaper. I managed to still get it and it's probably the only reason I ended up with the likes of Condemned and Kameo. I wanted COD 2, PGR 3 and Perfect dark zero anyway.

I was obsessed with PGR 3 but mainly for the arcade machine on which you could play Geometry wars. When I finally set up xbox live I remember being so excited to download that game and about XBLA in general. PGR blew me away too of course. The graphics and inside view of the car was outstanding. Condemned too had quite an impact on me at the time. COD 2 was my favourite game by far though and online was some of the best gaming moments I've had on LIVE.

Perfect Dark Zero is STILL the greatest shooter of this generation!

PGR3 is almost unmatched - multiplayer mayhem was awesome.

While some of those are dodgy/rubbish, it still kicks the gooseberry fool out of the launch titles for the PS4/Xbone.

A single stand out title? I completely disagree with you. Though to be fair you can add PGR3 and Geometry Wars to Call of Duty 2 to get a better lineup.

You disagree? What a shock.

I think you misunderstand my post though. I am saying a couple of those games were crap. (King Kong) but it was a great launch lineup and better than the PS4 and Xbones.

You chose King Kong over PGR 3 :dread:

I understand (King Kong was actually OK), but yeah my point is that it was an ok lineup and it looks to be about on par with Xbox One at least.

Dead Rising 3
Forza 5
Ryse: Son of Rome
Killer Instinct
Crimson Dragon
Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag
Battlefield 4
FIFA 14
Lego Marvel Super Heroes
Need for Speed: Rivals
Call of Duty: Ghosts

The idea that lineup is somehow bad is utterly insane.

As we don't know the quality of any of those titles, it's a bit hard to say.

Which would mean that saying the lineup is poor compared to the 360 one isn't right either.

However I think we can take a decent educated guess about what a lot of those games are going to be like and overall I'd stack them against the 360 lineup any day.

360 has to be my favourite console ever, but the strawberry floating hardware was atrocious. I had 3 die on me and I wouldn't have said I was a heavy user compared to some people and nearly all my mates 360's broke at some point.

I bought the redesigned black 360 that came out a few years ago and whilst its been reliable it still looks gooseberry fool. It's a shame Microsoft design all their consoles to look so horrendous.

But the games though, wow... The 360 has an outstanding software catalogue.

I didn't buy at launch but I got one just before Oblivion came out along with PGR3, Kameo, Perfect Dark Zero and King Kong. I have a lot of great memories of PGR3 but I think my favourite of the launch titles has to be Perfect Dark Zero as the multiplayer was brilliant fun at times. Retail exclusives have been few and far between for the last couple of years but the 360 is still easily one of my top three consoles of all time.

While I ended up loving my 360, when it was first announced, I couldn't have been less interested. The graphics looked like uprezzed versions of things already available and the machine itself looked like a toy.

Bought one for Gears and was very happy with it.

Also, this thread seems to be missing the fact that it launched at £280. And you could buy a "core" for £210. Amazing stuff. Can't believe I actually thought it cost too much at the time.

Yeah, I think the 360's lower price helped MS get where they are this gen, and the £430 price tag is really going to hurt the X1.

It's weird how no-one seems to really mind the launch price of the PS4. In fact people were quite pleased it wasn't more expensive.

I am not sure whether these means that the 360 was excellent value for money or that we are all a bunch of mugs for swallowing quite a large price increase for shiny new consoles. I can't imagine Microsoft launching a console for £210/£280 nowadays.

Like you said, at the time I thought the 360 was slightly too much to shell out at launch. I feel the same way about the new consoles at the moment.

It puts everything into perspective. It makes the PS3's £425 launch price look absolutely insane. Complete and utter madness.

Not that it needed any help, but it also makes the Wii U's £300 launch price look ridiculous.

I don't know why, but the PS4 still seems to represent good value to me, and I'm not really sure why that is, other than perhaps that I've got far more disposable income now than I did then. I think Plus also factors into it. The console immediately seems to have more value when I know that I'll be getting a game a month - even if it's just an indie game.
