I also think the main difference in the next gen version will be much improved physics, AI and the now much mentioned lack of load times.
We've long been at a point where we aren't going to get jaw dropping visual upgrades in the Crysis mould any more even if this gen lasted another 2 or 3 years so anyone expecting some kind of graphics showstopper may be disappointed.

We can only hope

These are the promises that have never been fulfilled, as developers always go for better visuals instead

I think in Halo Infinite's case it's just the same old problem with cross-gen. They never look that good, they're just last-gen games upscaled and, thanks to Xbox One X and PS4 Pro, the gains next gen will be even more diminished.

It didn’t help that it was a pretty uninspiring trailer content wise.

My problem with Halo trailers is that as someone who has never played the series (outside of some multiplayer on the very first game) the lore is completely lost on me. The trailer seemed like it was entirely aimed at existing fans - there was nothing in it to entice new players.

Wasn't the original Halo a load of rubbish a just a few months before launch and then it blew everyone away.

I'm hoping Microsoft might bring back some of their original Xbox franchises, like PGR, Links, Rallisport Challenge, Voodoo Vince, Amped, and Midtown Madness, though I have no idea if they still own them.

Well....they do have a collection to play... :shifty:

Halo Lore is one of it's main points, not sure you'd lose much though if just want to shoot aliens in the face.

Yeah sure I realise that is a big selling point and what gets the fans excited, and there are plenty enough of them. The trailer simply wasn't aimed at someone like me, and that's fine, but I think it fits with the opinion that this conference was better for existing Xbox fans than it was for potential new ones.

It wasn’t exciting if you know the lore and have played previous Halo games either though.

Nope, I mean....I finished all the Halo's and couldn't make head nor tail of whats going on in that trailer.

Didn’t it have a pretty poor E3 showing before release?

Pretty sure they still own Midtown Madness and Project Gotham Racing, but neither are needed on an Xbox platform while Forza Horizon is around [though you could argue that both of those would be complete arcade racer experiences rather than the simcade of Horizon]. That's kind of something Microsoft could take advantage of and push one or both to Nintendo.

Was pretty meh. I expect I'll be saying meh a lot this year. I'm sure a number of the games are good or will be good but most just looked like I've seen it all before somewhere. Lack of gameplay didn't help me feel invested and the nextbox stuff was a snore beside EPIC BEARD. Man I'd play with that beard over the next gen machines any day. All just stuff we expect. More power etc. 8K means absolutely nothing to me at this point. I find it hard to get excited about all this stuff now. We all know the next consoles are going to have more grunt. I think deep down inside we all know its going to matter very little to the games themselves now. I'm so jaded.

The one game that really stood out for me was 12 Mins and that looked like it could run on a toaster.

Oh and the Game Pass stuff is amazing value. Even just the PC stuff on its own. Does make me wonder about the future though. How is this sustainable in the long term for devs? Plus the usual not really owning games if they are digital worries, like if MS take a game off the service etc.

Also Matrix man turning up was fun but if I'm honest I'm not really that keen on seeing famous faces in games (unless its based on a tv/film property obvs).

Halo was on people's radar for years before release, back when it was coming to Mac and then PC and people were raving about it. Not sure if it was 99 or 2000 but it had a cracking E3 trailer from that era as well: still remember the Elite at the end: "your destruction is the will of the gods, and we are their instrument" :datass:

Yeah, I was just looking at some magazine coverage from that period following E3 2001 and it didn't have a great showing, with various frame rate issues and the bloke from Bungie playing the live demo not being very good either, apparently dying almost immediately.

Previews after that were very positive, however.

I saw someone post about it on Twitter, but I couldn't agree more, Master Chief desperately needs a redesign. It looks bloody stupid, they need to Iron Man it.
