I haven't tried all of the games yet but N+ carried over my saves but Super Meat Boy hasn't. I guess it all depends on whether you allowed the 360 to use cloud saving? Never mind, it's nice just to have some of my Arcade games back.

A lot of people noticing faster loading times over on GAF too.

On top of faster loading, Mass Effect for instance appears to have reduced texture pop-in, a crisper image and smoother framerate.

When they get PGR4 backwards compatible, I hope it can be purchased as a digital download :toot:

Phil Spencer talked backwards compatibility on Giant Bomb:
https://youtu.be/Pjh1Uo_xaSQ?t=11170

The new leadership team made the decision to invest in backwards compatibility about a year ago, they emulate the full 360 hardware level and it's running the OS, frame by frame performance, Xbox Live thinks you're on 360 so you can play with people who are on 360, Xbox One sees it as an Xbox One game so that's why Xbox One features work too, emulator runs exactly the same for all games unlike original Xbox emulation on 360 where emulation didn't scale well and they had to 'shim' on a title by title basis, emulator will be tweaked if any issues are found as they bring more games over, for 3rd party games they just need permission from publisher and then they'll run them through a QA test, Kinect games won't work, currently figuring out how to do multi-disc games.

Yeah was interesting.

Basically the Xbox One is running a VM which it treats as a game. The 360 games run on the actual 360 OS and the 360 OS runs on the virtual hardware that the Xbox One is running.

Pretty cool.

What's the actual end goal to this? To have all 360 games available?

What about games that have been released on both formats?

The cynic in me thinks it won't be as simple unfortunately, especially as it's something that is putting me off a lot of upgrading...

Pretty much. Going by the videos I've watched so far, it seems like they'll be able to run pretty much anything excluding games with rights issues, kinect and peripheral essential stuff.

It really does run so well from what I've experienced on the preview.

It's apparantly going to have 100 titles at launch this 'holiday' as voted by xbox owners and keep adding to that list over the coming months and years.

I want Lost Odyssey, im hoping I can buy digitally.

As things stand now, they've promised over 100 titles for launch, with 100s more added in the months to come. "We will continue to release Xbox 360 titles on a regular basis and build a substantial catalog over time." Kinect games won't work, and they're getting fans to vote on which games to prioritise as every game has to go through a QA test before being added (go here to vote: http://xbox.uservoice.com/forums/298503-backwards-compatibility/filters/top). Publishers need to give permission for 3rd party games but no work or money is required from them, and they also appear to be encouraging 3rd parties to give 360 games as freebies with Xbox One games (such as Fallout 3 coming with 4, and the two Vegas games coming with Rainbow Six Siege).

It depends on the publishers or owners of the game to approve the release for Xbox One.

Presumably they hope that most publishers will take them up on the offer and to be honest I'm not sure why they wouldn't unless they are planning a HD upgrade of a release.

There's already a couple of examples where publishers are bundling their 360 games in with their new games in a series (Fallout 3 free with Fallout 4 and Vegas 1 & 2 free with RS: Seige).

Yeah glad I've got myself a 2TB drive plugged in, picking up the games I've got shouldn't be a problem.

Oh and just in case it hasn't been confirmed, I can confirm that if you have a 360 disc game after it downloads you will still need to put the disc in you Xbox One every time you want to play it.

No surprise.

Assuming they can get multiple disc games working they no doubt will bring it over.

Thankfully 360 games only really take up about 4-7 gig compared to the 25-40 gig beasts of this gen. Still, will definitely be picking up an external drive so I can have as much of my collection 'on tap' as possible.

Going by the top 100 in votes so far, if they can, it looks pretty decent. I'll be playing Bioshock and Half-Life 2 again on my giant TV. Halo Wars also in that list.

I don't suppose anyone would be kind enough to get us an invite to the preview? Gamertag: Doc Neo Cortex

I wish they let you submit your own tag like on the 360 but oh well.
