You could replace the joystick switches which is easy enough to do and will only cost a couple of quid on ebay
Reading around a little more and you can switch out the springs in the switches instead of desoldering the whole unit off the board. But it doesn't look like you can buy the springs separately. Couple of the analogue sticks are only £4.50 so I'm going to buy those off ebay, switch up the springs first and if that doesn't work then probably just buy a small soldering iron and desolderer. Can't really lose anything because one of the controllers is virtually useless now due to the excessive drift.
Looking around wireless XBox controllers and there doesn't seem to anything on the market aside from the official ones anyway.
