Kaz, I’d make the most of the offer now, and save up all your points while the sub lasts. Then, once it’s over, use the points to buy whatever is available then. (Unless the points expire. I can’t remember.)

the rewards points don't, you can use them to top up the ultimate sub whenever a gamepass/gold sub goes on sale.

12 months gold is around 22,000 points when on offer which is roughly 2 months of rewards points. I seem to remember the game pass not being as good (value wise) when it's on offer.

the gift cards when on offer are 1,000 rewards points = £1. You could also use this credit to buy gold/game pass subscriptions through the Microsoft store.

Thanks for all the info guys. Your probably right, i will get a 12 month gold sub from CDkeys (i assume they are still reliable), convert my sub and keep collecting those points in the mean time.

Thanks again!

As far as i can tell there is only one catch - you cannot drop down from the ultimate tier. I guess this means that if i buy any game pass credit etc using rewards, it will be scaled to down to approx 2/3 its duration? If so, that makes it seem like less of a "no brainer" than everyone declares it as being. Or am i missing something here?
Do we know how long the Ultimate conversion for £1 is going to be on offer for? I never really play games online, and the Games with Gold are almost never as enticing as the Game Pass offerings, so am not sure if i should "jump in" with this offer or not....

This highlights my issue. At the moment I can redeem 3 months of game pass every 4 months or so. If I'm only going to be getting 2 months of ultimate then I am actually worse off if I never play online. The only time I actually benefit is from the initial saving on Xbox live Vs games pass (about 15 quid). The saving is more significant if I buy 2 years of Xbox live, but knowing my luck I will be dead before then, and I will look like a right mug....

Clearly this is a me issue, but I wonder if people are mistakenly thinking there are zero downsides. Canceling and setting up a new non ultimate membership at the end of the term is a valid arguement, but that requires a little bit more coordinating on the users part.

If you max out your sub before applying the ultimate £1 offer that gives you 3 years. Then just wait until the 12 months gold is on offer on rewards.

It will cost about 22,000 which is 2 months worth of reward points. Unlike the gift cards that automatically apply to your account with an expiry, the gold redemption is a standard code you can apply to your account at any time. Save those codes to top up your 3 year account when it nears the end.

In 3 years you should easily be able to save up enough reward points to bulk buy 12 month gold codes and save for a rainy day.

Even while not being on offer you should be able to save enough reward points to redeem against the gold membership quicker than that membership expires. It looks like the 6 month and 12 month gold codes are currently out of stock (probably from them being on sale a month ago) so I can't find out how much they cost usually.

Yeah, this is good advice. It just means a significant outlay right now, but it will be worth it long term. Thanks.

Don't forget to turn off any recurring payment before applying the gold code - it will offer you an additional month for free to turn it on again each time (which you can just immediately revert).

I did the deal and got 36 months of ultimate. Both the 12 and 3 month gold codes each gave a bonus free month, and a 1 month pass I had from a game case gave a free 14 days extra.

Good to know!

I think i'm going to get the 12 month gold from CD Keys (can i buy the EU one or does it have to be the worldwide sku? The former is about £4 cheaper). So will approve recurring payments before turning them off again.

I also have enough rewards points for 2 x 1 month of xbox live gold, which i will purchase and apply before converting to ultimate. I'm guessing i wont get another 2 x 1 bonus months with the autorenewal option?

I would think that the Europe region included the UK but I can't find any info online so it'd be wise to shoot them a message and check

Looks like all of the prices have shot up to £40 for gold. I guess because of the surge from everyone doing this! It's still cheaper this way that 12 months game pass which is £20 more expensive.

Instant Gaming have 12 months for just under £40 if the CDKeys Europe thing is a no go https://www.instant-gaming.com/en/1-buy ... embership/

Don't forget Xbox Gold actually had a price rise to £49.99 in May.

No reason it shouldn't be treated like a normal code, so each one should give an extra 14 days if you switch off recurring payment each time.

I have heard a few things about CDKeys selling redeemed codes recently, never sure about these stories, but maybe a good time to try Instant Gaming that you have linked - thanks.

Did not release that it was 14 days for 1 month codes. Still, that would be ANOTHER extra month, so why not!

Thanks all.

Cdkeys acknowledged the error on the UKHD post, it was only a problem for a very short time and all the customers were sorted out as far as I could see. I bought 3 codes from cdkeys last week. All worked perfectly and came through in seconds.

Nice xbox avatar by the way ;)

Just got an email back from them confirming EU one includes UK. So thats reassuring.

Will get this all done this evening and stop deliberating. Hopefully it might mean i get to play some of the Game Pass games with people on here. I have always liked the look of Sea of Thieves.

Thanks for all the help and advice guys, I will put my reward points to use in 3 years time.

Can anyone tell me if save data is retained on your Xbox for a Game Pass game if you delete it from your library? I did not have Gold at the time so there would be no cloud save (i assume this is a thing on Xbox still), but i wonder if it would still be held locally? Thinking of going back to Exodus but on an easier difficulty mode as i was stuck on a stealth bit (stealth, the absolute bane of my life).

I think the save file is separate if you go to manage game. You can delete that with or without the game. Same goes for any individual DLC. Unlike PlayStation it's all separate.

I'm not 100% sure about cloud saves requiring Gold anymore. I usually pay a game until I've finished it and if I like it it stays, or if I'm done with it then I'll delete it and never go back to it.
