Am i doing something wrong, or is there no way to have a source connected to the HDMI IN on the Xbox 1X and have it display through the 1X source on the tv whilst the 1X is off?

I was hoping to free up an HDMI source on the TV by having the Sky output go in to the back of the 1X, but this does not seem to work unless i have the 1X switched on and the setting for "Display TV on power on" enabled. I was hoping not to have to take this extra step, and i know my wife wont be very impressed with having to turn a console on to watch the TV.

No you can't display your TV through your Xbox unless it's on....because it has in built TV listings and stuff....don't know what you thought it would work tbh....

I used to have it set up with Kinect and the wife actually missed when I moved the OG Xbox upstairs and she couldn't watch TV through it. Just saying "Xbox On" would turn on , Xbox 1,Sky box, TV and Soundbar on all at once.

I'm one of the few people who miss the side bar feature, I used to have football on, at the side when playing less taxing games like X-Com and stuff, it worked great.

I would have loved the option for snap still to be present tbh. I often game on the Switch with something streaming on Youtube. This would have been a wonderfully tidy way of doing this whilst using the Xbox. I guess i missed the boat on that one.....

I think it killed the UI and when they got rid they freed up more ram for games which the base X1 really needed so I understand why they did it but yeah I really like it. I remember watching The Ryder Cup while playing Skyrim over the weekend.

The new 1X bundle with the three Metro games is £400 at Argos.

EDIT: Now the same price at Amazon, but with a free copy of Fallout 76 chucked in. Option to add Crackdown 3 for £20 extra.

Xbox gift cards are the Hot Deal again on Microsoft Rewards, £5 = 5000 points. I've been waiting for this before I cash in. Not as good a saving as before, but still worth taking advantage of if you've got the points.

Could i use this credit against any xbox product (including gold promo codes, game pass etc?) I saw something in the small print saying it has to be spent within 90 days. Is that right or did i misunderstand?

Thanks!

I think it's usually 5850 points. Not a huge discount. Don't know how long it will be available, but it's only changed in the last few days, so I'd expect it to be around for at least a week.

Yes, it has to be spent within 90 days. Never been a problem for me!

I'm not sure if you can use the credit to then buy Gold/Pass subs. Probably not.

Thanks for the reply. Might hold on to my points for now then. I don't see me buying anything on the store as there is so much stuff i want to play on Game Pass

20 percent off for a limited time or while supplies last. Redeem this Hot Deal before 18/03/2019 for just 5,000 points!

£5 was around 5,500 points up until Monday and was 4,410 in the last sale

If you don’t need the credit now, I’d recommend waiting for the “Microsoft gift card” to go on offer. It’s still sitting at around 5,500 and is usually the next thing to be discounted after the Xbox gift card offer is over.

also to note these gift cards have a 3 month expiry - so that’s another reason to not spend your points if you have nothing on the horizon

You can spend it on anything on the Microsoft store... consoles, laptops, subscriptions, games, apps, download addons etc

Thanks for that. I think i remember reading that the Microsoft one and Xbox one are essentially interchangeable in their application. Is that accurate? Can i use the Xbox gift card for all the same things or are some things gated from its use?

Yes redeeming either type will get added to the same wallet. You can find your balance by logging in to your Microsoft account on a browser and checking "Payment and Billing". You'll also see if any of your wallet credit has an expiry date and it will tell you how much is due to expire and the day. Only promotional credit expires generally (like what you get form Microsoft rewards. Sometimes Amazon and CDkeys will sell credit that has a few months expiry on too)

Great reply. I was wondering why there was an expiry on it. The fact that it's promotional credit justifies that condition in my opinion.

It looks like Age of Empires is coming to Xbox (finally) as they will be on the next Inside Xbox (they only talk about Xbox games)

Age of Empires will have a segment on Inside Xbox in March! Make sure to tune in here when we go live, because we’re going to have some very exciting announcements!
