I find quick resume works better on some games than others. For Forza Horizon 5 I've found it almost flawless so far. From the console turned off to the game being up and running (and connected online) in under 20 seconds or so.
Fortnite is a bit less smooth. On resuming the game it needs to perform a long-winded manual handshake to reconnect to the online services. So although you may exit out of the game on the main screen, when you resume it, it will look like it's going to stay connected, but it will have a good think for 10-15 seconds before kicking you out to the login/reconnect screen. Still faster than launching the game from scratch, but not as impressive as Forza.
Halo Infinite is on the other end of the scale. When it comes to the online side of things, quick resume has never worked. In order to reconnect to the online services I always have to exit out of the game and restart it to get online. The same goes when I exit out of the campaign mode and try to join multiplayer for some weird reason.
Ah I hadn't realise there were problems with some games, I've only really been switching between Halo MCC, Forza and Tetris Effect and they all seem to work fine. Halo Infinite doesn't but that's just because it seems to disconnect you from the servers and you need to restart to connect again.
When Quick Resume works it's fantastic. It's the most next-gen feeling feature of the console.
I wish the Xbox had some kind of check before it tries to resume a game from a disc, though. If the disc isn't in the console it tries to load it anyway, fails, and just closes the game so any progress you had is GONE.
Some online games work fine with Quick Resume, others not so much. I think Halo Infinite will reconnect but it can take AGES, I've never waited but have quick resumed back into campaign and when I went to play some MP I was logged on and ready to go, no idea how long it took though as I was in Campaign for a couple of hours.
For non online games that support QR it's pretty flawless for me.
Everyone knows how the check whether a game has quick resume or not, aye? (I just press the guide button and the overlay will mention whether the game has quick resume, fps boost, auto HDR, etc.) I lost about 20 minutes of progress on DQ Builders bc I didn't check and just assumed it had quick resume
I don't even know what it is. Is it just turn console off and then select the game? I've been using it like the ps rest mode so I assume that's it working.

I didn't know that, no! I had assumed quick resume was a system-level thing and games didn't specifically had to support it. I just thought the OS handled it all.

It's like that but for multiple games but somehow *even better*: you can switch *between games* *multiple games*and not lose your place! You can have up to 12 games to switch between, but that number depends on the type of game you're playing. If they're graphically demanding games, then, I think it goes down to 3 quick resumes only. But you can have more if it's a mix of big budget AAA and smaller games.

Also, if you press Guide then select “My games & apps”, the group at the top shows you which games are currently in Quick Resume memory.

Thanks for the heads-up
You're welcome! I wondered how it worked bc Boyfriend Dungeon (must play for anyone into visual novels but doesn't mind some hack and slash action) would only load up where I left off if I didn't switch the console off, but some games remembered where I was even if I did that. Then, I just started noticing the wee notices when pressing the guide while a game was playing and the penny soon dropped.

And you can even have that group added as one of the rows of your Xbox OS menu. (I've got Quick Resume added as well as a custom playlist of games.) I'm not a fan of the look of the OS UI, but I love its customisability and ease of use.

Psychonauts 2 always tells me it supports quick resume but it literally never worked once in the 30-odd hours I spent playing it It's so inconsistent, because I'm sure I've spoken to other people where it's worked perfecty fine
Hoping to play a game tonight with a friend. I will be on Xbox, he will be using xcloud on his PC. Will we be able to talk using the native Xbox party chat from the Xbox console (he has an Xbox controller he will plug in to his pc via usb and 3.5mm wired headphones with mic that work when he is on Xbox), or will we need to use a 3rd party app? Can you use headphones plugged in to controller ok if your on pc?
Have done some searches but could not find an answer. I won’t be catching up with him until about midnight, so don’t want to run in to loads of unforeseen problems at that time of night!
From past experience when I've tried to play multiplayer games with people playing on xcloud (although they were playing on their phone but still with a normal xbox controller) I've never been able to hear them in the party. Not sure if that's just them being a bit useless or if it's not currently supported in cloud gaming, though
