It just seems like the best way to upgrading cheaper and better for the environment.

Microsoft are at odds with themselves, what with Apple
opening up iOS to proper streaming apps worldwide and them going ‘no thanks’.
So it looks like they only bothered to launch xCloud on Android just to bury Stadia.

That's not true at all. Apple's 'compliance' with the new laws have been widely criticised by almost everyone. They haven't 'opened up' at all.

Don’t get me wrong: Apples ‘compliance’ is still one sided in their favour and they’ve barely capitulated at all. It’s not like I can finally sideload .ipa files on my iPhone and the app rules make it financially unviable for anyone but large corporations to sidestep the App Store.
But the streaming app thing is a separate, worldwide thing and not related to the EU rulings. XCloud came to Android years ago and Apple blocked streaming apps due to wanting to test every game therein first. Microsoft naturally gave them the finger.
Now Apple have opened iOS up to streaming apps worldwide Microsoft still say no even though they operate it as an extension of Gamepass and not a core business model. To my knowledge if they sold gamepass subs via the Android app they’d have to pay Google 30% of that fee, just as they would Apple.
In other words the business conditions for a worldwide xcloud app are identical on Android and iOS yet they still won’t bring it to Apple devices. My gut tells me that they only therefore brought it to Android in the first place just to bury Stadia.
