Microsoft's Spencer says he doesn't consider Sony and Nintendo his main competition anymore, largely because neither of those Japanese companies owns its own top-end global cloud infrastructure akin to Microsoft's Azure platform. One of Microsoft's main selling points for the new Xbox will be integration with its xCloud technology, which is meant to allow you to play the same game across a console, a desktop PC and a mobile device.

"When you talk about Nintendo and Sony, we have a ton of respect for them, but we see Amazon and Google as the main competitors going forward," Spencer said. "That's not to disrespect Nintendo and Sony, but the traditional gaming companies are somewhat out of position. I guess they could try to re-create Azure, but we've invested tens of billions of dollars in cloud over the years."

Spencer said Microsoft was willing to cooperate with Nintendo and Sony on initiatives like allowing gamers on the various companies' systems to play with and against one another. He added: "I don't want to be in a fight over format wars with those guys while Amazon and Google are focusing on how to get gaming to 7 billion people around the world. Ultimately, that's the goal."

A very bold statement. Calling Sony & Nintendo ‘out of position’ is borderline foolish.

I know my TV currently supports Steam Link natively,so I imagine the integration will be something of the kind.
Now,to put it nicely,I was really unimpressed by Samsung/Oculus partnership on VR/VR games on phones. I hope they don't quietly drop it 2 years after it's done, this time.

I noticed Xbox One got a new interface recently. I'm not a fan. I prefered the older one,but i guess it works too.

Has anyone had difficulties signing into live on their Xbox 360 recently? I fired mine up last night for the first time in a few months and after a few updates just would not let me sign in with my account. I followed the ‘can’t sign in’ instructions and changed the password for my Microsoft account but still wouldn’t let me sign in. The changed password worked on my One but not on the 360 it just said it didn’t work. Any ideas?

It is related to the new gamertag system, where it appends a number to the end when using Xbox 360?

I’m not sure what that is?

Just spent 50 minutes on hold to Xbox support listening to Major Nelson on a loop :dread:. For some reason I just can’t get my profile to connect to Xbox live on Xbox 360. I’ve changed my password and the login details work on Microsoft.com and on Xbox one but whenever I try to log in on 360 it says that password didn’t work and then it takes me on a loop to reset it. I’ve successfully changed it twice (on their website)and used the new details on the One but no joy on the 360... the console is fine and my wife can sign in to Xbox live on the 360. Any ideas?

Is your password longer than 16 characters? I think that was the limit on 360 but not sure if they changed it.

Alternatively, if you have 2 factor authentication on your MS account try a generated app password when signing in on the 360 instead:

Maybe you’re in the preview program but as far as an official UI update goes, it’s been like this for several months...

They definitely had a change for insiders fairly recently. It's alright.

Anyone else not able to download games through the gamepass app? It used to work for me, now it does not. Have reset console, checked settings etc but no luck, it just stays at queued. Works if i do it from the website.

I had it working perfectly. Then it stopped working. Then it started working again. It seems quite hit and miss.

What they should really add is the ability to restart paused downloads through the app. Downloading games seems to freeze our entire internet, so it would be good to be able to restart downloads once I know the wife has left for work.

Cheers, hopefully it will start working again.
Resuming downloads really should be a thing, it would appear you can delete games of the system now at least, which is a good step forward (obviously i cant, but if the app is working for you then its an option).

Is there a way of knowing what the latest official-to-everyone release is? I've still got the vertical page where you can go right to the gamepass/store/etc tabs, but I keep seeing people going on about new ones :dread:

Not officially announced by Xbox PR yet but the new dashboard is out for non-insiders, you can manually update to it.
