It was going to happen eventually. It seems the market just cannot support single platform gaming magazines anymore. I have a feeling even OPM might kick the bucket soon, although considering the heavy Playstation bias of the UK, I think that one might be safe.

Looking at the circulation figures (OPM sold c18k per issue in 2019, OXM c15k) I'd be surprised if OPM continued for much longer. The official mags are licensed by the manufacturers and, as with Nintendo a few years back, they may decide that the low audience numbers aren't worth it.

It's a real shame as I loved gaming mags but the combination of high pricing (£6 to £7, now), decreased page count and - of course - free news on the internet and social media channels means that they can't really continue in a mainstream commercial sense. The light at the end of the tunnel is that hobbyist / fan editions could rise up; there are a number around already for people who are happy to pay a fiver for a small but fun paper mag.

Yeah, with those numbers, it does look likely that OPM is soon to go. I guess being licenced means they haven't been able to break out of the usual routine to suit a magazine for a new market (focus more on features rather than reviews and news), so that downfall was sure to happen. In a way, this isn't as bad as with CVG and ONM, since all the websites have been folded into GamesRadar, meaning those communities still have somewhere to be.

Simplified Guide Layout

The Guide is the heart of navigation on Xbox One, and we want to deliver an experience that makes it easier to find the features you need during gameplay.

With this week’s update, we’re experimenting with a streamlined user interface incorporating the following changes:

The new default tab order opens Guide with tabs in a left-to-right configuration, the order of which can continue to be customized from the “Profile & system” tab.
Party, messaging, and invites have been combined in the new “Parties & chats” tab, providing one single location to communicate with other players.
Settings, audio, and power options are now located in the “Profile & system” tab on the left side of Guide, as identified by your gamerpic.
Looking for Group can be found in the “People” tab next to the “Find someone” option.
App & system notifications are now grouped under the bell icon with other alerts.

So i tried streaming from my 1X using Mixer last night (first time, im hoping to play some Jackbox 3 with friends online). I noticed a 7-8 second delay between the 1X and the stream on my mobile. Is this normal? I keep reading about how Mixer has super low latency and less delay than rival services. Connection quality was good and not choppy etc, so i don't think it was an infrastructure issue.

If this is normal then no problem - i will just play watching the stream as well (i think i can get to mixer website on my TV), but it would be nice if there was one less hoop for me to jump through (i'm already going to be doing all the tech assistance on my friends mobiles etc).

We tried to stream Jackbox on the PS4 using Youtube (because it's apparently the only way of having a "private" stream), and the lag essentially made Jackbox almost unplayable. There was a good 10 second delay between what was actually happening and what you saw on screen. Maybe that's what they're comparing their lag to. 7 seconds is a little better than 10

I suggested we give Mixer a try next time but we haven't yet. I might give it a bash and see if we have the same troubles.
