You might be surprised.

There's a really nice Samsung 22" TV that's 1080p and it'll be better all round like glowy says.

EDIT - Available for under £200 from John Lewis, its slightly cheap at Amazon, but you get the free 5 year guarantee from John Lewis.

Something odd is going on with Xbox one. I logged into my UT team and I have extra 50k coins. I don't know where it came from, I checked my purchases and I haven't bought anything.

It's pretty unlikely that Buff's free Minecraft and your free FIFA coins are in any way related.

I did have my eye on that samsung model at asda, byt its cheaper at john lewis. Thanks for the link. I was also looking at a £150 toshiba with a vga port, because of my experience i dont have much faith in HDMI. But the samsung with two HDMI ports and my faith in Glowys and HSHs expert opinion might twist my arm.

Wouldn't call it an expert opinion but relying on VGA now seems backwards.

The other thing is that if you do buy from John Lewis they are pretty good at returns if it turns out that you still have an issue with the display through the HDMI out (not that I can see why you would).

47" 1080p FTW. :datass:

I done that X1 HDTV calibration thingy, well worth going through if only to find our what settings are best for gaming.

I have a 22" 1080p hooked up to my 360 upstairs and it's great.

5 year guarantees are a myth. The Sale of a Goods act means that items have to be fit for purpose and last a reasonable amount of time. It is reasonable to assume that a TV ought to last 5 years and so Amazon/Samsung would replace it if things went wrong.

Except that they won't. Send something back after the first year (or whatever the manufacturer gives as its standard warranty time) and they will try to charge you for a repair. Maybe if you take them to court (or threaten to) then you might get it sorted, but that's a major hassle with no guarantee of success.

If you are getting a 5 year guarantee and paying either nothing or very little for it then its probably worth doing.

This discussion again :dread: the SoGA protects stuff up to 6 years but it isn't actually guaranteed for that long. Try getting a replacement after 4 years without a battle. It's not easy or fun, or cheap.

So yeah the JL thing means at least you know the won't argue with you.

The law trumps Amazons policy on the subject. They might argue but they are wrong.

You still have to prove it moggy. They can't just take your word for it. You might have smacked it with a hammer for all they know.

Hence the cost and time involved. It's a complete gooseberry fool law. If that law exists properly then why doesn't everything just have a 6 year guarantee?

I have no idea why retailers would want to make people think they only have 1 year to return things. ;)

I think the problem with the SoGA is that all responsibility is on the claimant to prove that product gained the defect by fault of the manufacturer which is extremely difficult in most cases.

John Lewis' 5 year warranty is definitely worth having.

Yeah that's what I said. Law or no law, the retailer doesn't just have to stump up a free repair or whatever, they can make it extremely difficult for the consumer. Which is gooseberry fool I agree, but it's up to whoever makes these rules to make the clearer.
