Don't get me wrong, I wouldn't want to buy it now (the damn thing isn't even wireless), but for certain games at the time (and that time was about, what, a year?) it was good. But then the S came out and made it defunct, because that was basically good at everything bar beat'em'ups. Oh, and the white and black buttons were still useless.

I obviously never played any of the games it was good with, as I always thought it was a horrible controller. I have large hands as well, so it’s not just because it was a big controller.
It was competing against the PS2 and Gamecube and both of those had controllers that kicked the gooseberry fool out of it. And I don’t even like the Dualshock.
The Controller S was great though, Microsoft learned from their mistakes and then built on it again a few years later with the awesome 360 controller.

In the year I spent with it, it was pretty evenly split between games that I thought it was good with (Halo, PGR, Splinter Cell, Colin McRae 3), games where it didn't really matter (Broken Sword 3, Munch's Oddysee) & games where it was either terrible or thoroughly uncomfortable because of the repeated pressing of the HARD face buttons or weird d-pad (WWE RAW, DOA Beach Volleyball, DOA3, Indiana Jones).
I don't know if this new Duke feels the same, or they've done something to it. Because I went back and used the PS1 Dual Shocks recently to play some PSone games and then swapped over to the Dual Shock 3 to play the same games and there's a massive difference. I couldn't believe how much easier the driving tests were on Gran Turismo 1 and how responsive it was when played on a PS3. There is a heaviness to the movement of the analogue sticks on the Dual Shock 1. I'm just wondering if those type of improvements have been incorporated into the Duke here.

The Duke is hands down the worst controller I've ever used. It was horrible.

I wonder if the Xbox One X will get a price cut at E3? I suspect that Sony is planning either a revised Pro model or a price cut for it and I feel that Microsoft will reduce the XOX price to remain competitive. I'd love to see the console hit a £299 price point but perhaps a more realistic range to expect could be £349 to £369.

It’s about that price now anyway. I sold all my bundled items off on eBay and my launch X came to about £290. I’m not really sure how much more they can cut the price of their Xbox range
They need new exciting games more than anything.

Is anyone expecting a further slimming down of the launch models of this gen?
I think it would be rather interesting to see just how small they can make the hardware and if they can get anywhere close to something like the Wii in size.

I don't think you can get much smaller than the X while still keeping it quiet and including both a hard drive and Blu-ray drive.

Yeah if they do a digital only version they will get smaller but that's about it.
Might be a good way of them testing the water for a digital only console

Except, of course, that console manufacturers and publishers will jack up prices even more through the monopolised stores.

I don't think they will as it would be against their interests.
If they hike the prices people just won't buy in to the new generation or will look at PC as an option.
Pc gaming is mostly steam and that's not a price hikes nightmare.

Possibly - and I know that several places sell Steam keys at decent prices - but it's always been a bit different on the console digital stores. It has to suit consumers better to have multiple store options rather than one.

Okay... fair enough, you're taking a line that monopolised digital stores are better for consumers than having a host of retail stores. Personally, I'm not aware of too many (reputable) places that sell discounted game keys for XBO and PS4 but if you do... that's great!

I don't think it is better totally control is rarely good, however I don't think based on what we can see from pc gaming that it will be quite the high price apocalypse that people seem to think it is.

Console digital stores are not like Steam. New games are priced at around £55 for the "standard" versions and around £70 for "season pass" versions. For physical versions, the prices are around £45 and £60; they're lower because retailers buy in bulk to enable them to offer discounts. PC also offers several storefronts whilst consoles just have the one.
