But this is intended to be the budget model, so it makes sense for them to save the money where they can to get a low entry point. The problem is that they haven't gone low enough. I don't think a larger hard drive would solve that issue.

So the general feeling is that it should have a larger hard drive and also somehow be cheaper. And this is all from people who have no intention of buying one anyway.

If the current market are saying they're not interested then how do they expect the casual market to be interested?

The consensus appears to be that even if everyone didn't already own an xbox they wouldn't be interested in buying this one. So who is this for at this price point?

If it was cheaper some people might have bought a second console for their kids room or something like. It seems like a good console for a parent in terms of ensuring they only play appropriate games etc but the price point won't attract your average parent.

Probably because there's a promo running to get 3 months of Game Pass for £1.

I was interested to see how well the hardware designers could push the limits of shrinking down the hardware but it seems like zero effort was put into this.

Great idea but poor execution.

I've still not jumped into the current generation of Sony/MS consoles and the likelihood that backwards compatibility will be coming to the next offering from both of them means I have pretty much made my mind up to wait until the PS5/Xbox Two arrive. However if MS had come out and said - "here's a way to buy into the Xbox One brand - it's small, cheap and comes with 6 months Game Pass!" then I would have been all over it.

Around £150 would have been tempting. I'm sure that this generation of consoles has retained a higher price point for far longer than we have seen in the past.

I am surprised Microsoft wasn't willing to do something more bold with their pricing, especially when you know every software sale is going to be off the Xbox store, and that people buying this are probably even more likely to be Gold and Game Pass subscribers, and that is where most of the money for console manufacturers is made.

Can't see how they didn't manage to reduce the width by 30%-ish. The One S motherboard takes up almost all of the foot print but I'm sure a little bit of redesign could have seen some space saving.

It needs to keep the height for the cooling but they could have definitely squeeze the mobo. Lazy, cheap design at a premium price.

They must be calling it the Xbone Sad on purpose, right? This isn't a thing that nobody noticed.

Microsoft absolutely could have reengineered this to be smaller. If they did then it would have been an easier sell because the customer would appreciate a trade-off of functionality for sleekness, lose a disc drive in return for a more compact unit. Instead you lose the blu-ray and the console is the same fat size. Every time an owner will look at the sealed up slot they might be thinking - something's missing! This makes me think it was about minimising expense on the production line.

This reveal coming just hours after the PS5 information wouldn't have helped its reception.

Which would be a valid point if this cost £150 or something.

Obviously by the time Black Friday rolls around and the next gen consoles will probably have been unveiled, this will be going for £150 bundled with games download codes for games. But That is a mental launch price for something with less features than a console that is already available for less money.

So you’d be looking at around £142 for this digital console with the 3 pre installed games (and probably a 1 month trial of game pass that comes with consoles). The controllers cost like £50 each? And by the time you’ve taken off the cost of the games I’m not sure how much cheaper it could be

By the way 1TB is huge. I’ve never gone much past 60% used storage on my Xbox X since I’ve had it and I’m not a filthy casual

1TB is not huge when Red Dead Redemption comes in at 100GB. 10 games of that size and you're full. It won't even be a full TB after OS and additional allowances are made.

And the average person doesn’t play more than 2 games.
