Microsoft’s Xbox One has been the best-selling games console for four weeks in a row, MCV understands.

The machine has benefited from a £30 price cut, while the launch of Titanfall last week caused a surge in console sales of 96 per cent.

But retailers have told MCV that PS4 remains in control, and that Xbox’s recent success has been aided by shortages of Sony’s console.

In fact, a fresh supply of PS4s last weekend caused a 72 per cent rise in sales.

MCV understands that Sony is preparing to release extra stock into the trade for this Friday’s launch of Infamous: Second Son, which is PlayStation’s big hope for the quarter.

Expected. Titanfall provided a sales boost, aggressive price cutting by retailers (and Microsoft themselves) plus it's not hard to outsell a supply limited console. Ultimately, though, the big questions are "by how much did the Xbone outsell the PS4?" and "will it last, or is the PS4 going to overtake them again?"

That's a statement, not a question.

True, but the advertising campaign was.

It'll be interesting to see how Infamous and Ground Zeroes has an effect on the console sales, and Sony's corresponding big push in getting units out. I'm predicting Ground Zeroes #1, Infamous #2 and Titanfall #3 for this week's UK charts.

March's US sales are in, and it's time for some more numbers.
  • 5 million Xbones shipped worldwide. (vs 7 million PS4s sold worldwide)
  • 311k Xbones sold in the US last month. (Came in second behind the PS4)
  • 110k 360s sold in the US last month.
  • Tie-in ratio of 2.9 games per console (which is identical to the new figure from the PS4)
  • Titanfall tops the monthly chart, ahead of Infamous and South Park.
  • Minecraft continues to own bones in the retail market, outsells Thief.

Why even release that info? Just makes them look like complete idiots.

I am really surprised that it was outsold by over 60k units by PS4 in March. I mean they hyped Titanfall to the moon and cut the price but still failed.

I guess a large majority of people who wanted TF had already bought the console before March.

It depends what you mean by 'failed'. Frankly after all the negative press and resolutiongate I'm fairly impressed that they've managed to stay relatively close to PS4 sales. I mean, our own figures were like 90% PS4 at one point weren't they? A strong showing at E3 and a couple more big exclusives and the gap will start to narrow.

People laughing :fp:

Who gives a gooseberry fool.

Especially you Minto :|

After the clusterfuck of last summer I'm amazed it's doing so well. Does nobody else think it's sad that a Sony fanboy posted MS reported sales figures? And constantly keeps appearing in threads? I have a quick look in the ps4 threads every now and again and there's it's all talk about games and stuff.

Some of you lot must have a small penis or something if you have to get your jollies from stuff like this.

Fabian Delph is a banana split.
