Had a bit of an iffy start with the 1X. I had half an hour to fire it up last night after a day of moving and for some reason the sound wouldn't play. Eventually got into working and got into a game, it looks stunning and got me in the mood for few hours gaming this morning...

I've spent the past 45 minutes trying to get Assassins Creed to install with no luck. It was looking good a minute ago as it stooped connecting to Live a minute ago but alas it isn't working again. Not really sure what my options are now as I'm guessing it isn't a problem with the game.

By some weird twist of fate Halo 5 helped me find the problem as a very specific error message led me to a forum that says to disable Sky's firewall. The thing with with it is that it has a watershed which why some things work fine at certain times of the day, might be a rookie mistake but I've never heard of that before.

Only spent an hour or so on Halo but my god it looks good.

Halo 5 is lush. 4k update really does transform some titles and I think this shows the biggest difference between the base and "X" version.

Rise of the tomb raider high framerate and Hitmans similar mode are huge upgrades to those games.

Would people be interested in doing a coop legendary run of Halo 5? I know it's hard to get games organised on here so maybe people will just have to accept that they might have to go through parts of the game twice.

I'd be up for that.

It seems to be pretty standard that the X delivers the slightly better version over the Pro for most games. For folk who have a 4K screen I can see it being pretty attractive.

Microsoft has to try and maintain their delivery of cool options i.e. Xbox / Xbox 360 compatibiity / improvements, 4K capability, custom controller design and the like, as they need to drag people back from the PlayStation zone. For this gen I think it's a case of turning peoples' heads and then viewing the start of next gen as the time to hit the ground early and hit it hard.

It’s generally not a slight advantage, it’s been pretty substantial one in most cases, more than the power divide would dictate.

Maybe, Phote. I suspect that third-party publishers are probably holding back a little; I agree that the hardware offers, on paper, a significant boost over the Pro's capabilities. However, I think that, for this gen, the "standard" game engines that developers use will probably only show relatively minor improvements in performance. If developers were to code specifically to get the best out of the X, that's where we could see a stark jump.

Destiny 2 and Wolfenstein 2 both show quite a stark jump as is but I think I’d like the option to play 1080p 60fps. I think Destiny 2 could easily do this but that would split from base X1 users. Destiny 2 runs at a rock solid 30fps at a native 4K (much to Digital Foundrys surprise)and PS4 Pro has 1440 dynamic resolution and has frame rate issues. That difference doesn’t represent the raw power differential, it’s far more than it should be. I can’t tell if Pro has bottlenecks or X1X has a better design.

I think I'm mis-understanding your point, Photek. Do you think the X is showing better performance in games than the tech specs would suggest?

Personally, I think we've only seen games scrape the surface of the X's potential. The tech power that it has should mean that, with the necessary determination and customised code, it could deliver huge improvements (over both the Xbox S and the Pro).

Don' get me wrong; I think the X is a beast of a machine and has huge potential.

I could be wrong but I thought the X1X was basically a pro with 1.5 times the power, but generally the resolution is nearly doubled on X1X with added graphical bits and bobs.

Basically of course X1X displays games better than Pro as PS5 will be better than X1X but I’m genuinely surprised in the substantial jump from Pro to X1X.

It’s not as ‘substantial’ as you’re making out.

It's an ok upgrade but it's nowhere near a generational upgrade.

2018 is looking to be very good on the One X, the devs are getting to know the system with the X game updates and as Bungie has shown with Destiny. next years multi-plats should be even better.
