By unfortunate chance you couldn't have picked a worse period in the entire history of videogames to be launching an expensive console. After the usual launch hysteria of both machines, this is going to be one slow starter of a new generation.
It's possible that before the financial impact of the lockdown hits societies it could be that the market is ripe for new consoles. More people at home, more people with free time, more kids bored; all these things are believed to be factors in the Nintendo Switch having this upsurge of sales, besides Animal Crossing, to the point that it is sold out in many stores here and internationally. As people are home more perhaps this could actually be good for business, it won't be until launch sales figures are released that we can compare to the last (current) generation.
