Yes, I'm keen to see the focus on games rather than other media, too, Peter...

I do wonder how long it's going to take getting the apps back up to speed. People expect them now, and the PS4 and Xbox One have been much better than Smart TVs and dedicated Blu Ray players in actually staying Smart (I wouldn't be able to use My5, All4, ITV Hub, WWE Network, NowTV or previously SkyGo without them).

I do think it'll have 4k blue ray playback capabilities as the drive is in every box so it makes sense I just think it'll just be bog standard and any extra capability will be left to apps and stuff.

I take it the Xbox Series X will play that new fangled technology: the CD, something Sony stripped out of the PS4.

I remember being amazed that it couldn't play them as I'd bought a game with a soundtrack disk and couldn't work out why it wasn't working :fp: .

the 4.3TF Navi at 1080p still commands a nigh-on 30 per cent lead over the 9.2TF Navi at 4K.

Good results for a potential Lockhart up against a a potential PS5. I could see MS at E3 2021 - "Here's our debut 1st party next-gen only game which comes out October 2021. Sorry you can't play it natively on your XB1s but here's a Lockhart for £300 to play all the next-gen games on your 1080p TV."

Yep, I can see many people sticking with 1080p for a while yet as it's still fine most only buy new TV's when the old one breaks and in my experience they don't break much at all now. 4k is great but it's not essential for anyone who only games now and again.

Not a surprise for Gears. Looking forward to Forza Horizon 4 improvements the most though.

AMD conference tonight at 9pm so maybe some next-gen news there.

----------------------------------------------------------------

Maybe some Lockhart aka Xbox Series S aka 1080p box news soon -

Insider Shinobi -

Don't lock yourselves into thinking one way. I mean Lionhead Studios? Oh dear lol.

Anyway, I don't have the heart to tease further.

--------------------------------------------------------

Insider Shinobi -

Next time we get new stuff should be fun.

Week ten into the year now, looking forward to what else is in store.

Dice Dev -

Some lovely stuff is coming. People will be happy. :D

The best thing about this thing is that the thing is probably not the same thing shinobi602 is talking about, which is for the best as that means that more things will be a thing this year. Also not DICE related. I'm just a fan of some thing that will be a thing and people will be happy that it will be a thing.

Hopefully that clears up any confusion. :p

All this info coming from Microsoft is really making the silence over PS5 seem really odd.
Why are Sony allowing Microsoft to get all this uncontested publicity when all they need to do is issue similar information as surely they must have locked down the hardware specs by now and are solidly into getting ready for final production in a few months.

I don't think this is getting as wide spread attention as you might think. People in gaming circles are hearing about this, but then we are all relatively knowledgeable about the upcoming generation anyway - as well as probably being pretty set in out ways in terms of which machine(s) we might be getting.

If Microsoft were making waves in terms of the general public being aware of what is coming out, getting gooseberry fool loads of mainstream press attention and praise then I think Sony would up their game.

Ultimately right now they don't need to say anything. Their fans know the PS5 is coming and that's all that matters.

Widespread or not. It’s still strange.

Delay looking likely, according to:

Strong likelihood' of Xbox Series X delay to 2021, says analyst

Yet another report suggests Microsoft and Sony struggle to overcome challenges posed by coronavirus.

- Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5 have a "strong likelihood" of missing their scheduled late 2020 release windows, according to a new report from DFC Intelligence.

- With widely-reported supply chain issues in China, various hurdles may result in a delay or highly-limited availability.

The delay of next-generation consoles appears to be inching closer to reality, according to a new report from games industry research firm, DFC Intelligence. With the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, better known as coronavirus, we're seeing record industry impact, following the cancellation of top conferences likes GDC and E3 2020, and various product delays. Supply chain issues instigated by coronavirus may also hit Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5, during prime time for both platform holders.

A newly-published DFC Intelligence statement, as reported by Forbes, suggests a "strong likelihood" of delay to one or both upcoming flagship consoles.

"Coronavirus is likely to have a major short-term impact on the delivery of both systems," states DFC. "There is a strong likelihood one or both systems will not make a 2020 launch. If the systems do launch, supply will likely be constrained and initial pricing could be higher than expected."

"Currently, the economy is in an unprecedented state of uncertainty. Even if the situation clears up in a few weeks, the ability to manufacture and release a high-end new game system has already been severely impacted."

Eurogamer (Digital Foundry) - Full specs and what that weird slot at the back is for.

TL:DR, it's a bit of a beast, the slot is for a 1TB storage expansion (although you can still use USB 3.1 drives if you so wish), and they also show off Gears of War Ultimate upscaled to 4K.

That's going to be a gamechanger for me. I tend to switch between games at will depending on my particular moods, and this will make that so much quicker and easier.

Even if it's limited to 3 next gen games at a time that will be great as I rarely have more than that on the go at once anyway.

Sorry I meant for expanding the internal storage to utilise the faster speeds rather than hanging a 2.5" drive out the back like we currently do. Assuming you can use the USB 3 for games and it's not limited to just media like how smaller storage devices work on Xbox One right now.

I will say the faster read speeds on the NVme should mean games sizes are actually smaller and so it'll take longer to fill up the 1TB here compared to 1TB on an XB1 so expanding the storage might be a non issue for me as I'm still running 1TB on my XB1X

Hopefully they've completely reworked the file storage system on Xbox too because it's absolute dogshit when you have a large quantity of files stored on it.
