Yes.

Any idea's of 'streaming only' Xbox is more akin to Google Chrome, as in you plug it directly to TV.

I'm gonna say Series X €500, Series S €250.

If they go nuts it might be €400 and €200 but I can't see that happening.

They could launch a Series S without a controller for cheaper...

One X was £300, so I doubt Series S will be less than that unless MS cut stuff out of the box like the controller. Sony's digital model, which will be £400 has really got MS in trouble imo.

I'm sticking my neck out and predicting the Xbox Series S will be a £99 box that just plays games over xCloud with maybe some local storage for app downloads.

I'd also bet they're going to throw it in for 'free' with a £15/m All Access sub.

That would be pretty incredible value for anyone with a 1080p tv.

Exactly. It would be an incredible leg-up on Sony. Microsoft barely sold 500k XBOAD consoles last Christmas. Stats dictate there really isn't a market for a digital-download-only console but one priced at £99 that can access Gamepass *plus existing Xbox purchases* via streaming might be cheap enough to take hold.

Apparently the Series S just looks like a White Xbox One X.

I wonder if that’s the case then they’ll just leave a disc drive in it anyway? Not like it’s too tricky to fit one in that box and as they seem happy to cover a reasonable chunk of any extra costs themselves it’d seem sensible, not like the all digital One S was loads cheaper either.

Well, i think you misunderstand, I don't think its the same Size as an Xbox One X, in fact, most 'rumours' suggest its rather small, like really small.

Ah I thought you meant it was basically a recoloured Xbox One X with updated internals, fair enough if its going to be vastly smaller then ditch the disc drive.

What’s the point in spending money on R&D, creating hardware to sell for a tiny margin (if you’re lucky) to end up with an end product that everyone already owns (a phone, tablet, computer, laptop, TV etc)?

A streaming console will not work for 20+ years. Whilst our internet is not the best, it is better than in the US, where they all have capped speeds and allowances. Lockhart will be a 4tf box for £300 to £350 imo and target the casuals. I personally don’t see it as my third console, and would prefer to get the series x for the best multiplatform versions.

That article is nothing to do with last Christmas though?

The Xbox One in general has not been a barnstormer sales wise to it's hard to tell if the introduction of the All-Digital edition had much impact either way. Also coming 6 years into the lifespan of the machine it was never like to see millions of people suddenly rush out to buy it

I'd probably get my daughter a Series S down the line as she only has a 1080p TV anyway and we play lots of games online together so waiting for her X to load in some games would be an annoyance.

I will say this: MS has really got itself in a muddle with the branding of these consoles.

XBox One XBox One S XBox One X XBox Series S XBox Series X.

It's not great.

They only making 3 now and then I can see XOS dropped next year, down to just 2.

I’ve repeatedly had to stop myself from writing “Xbox One Series”, but with only 2 machines likely to be on sale at the majority of retailers come Christmas it should stop MS from running into the same issues Nintendo found themselves in with Wii/Wii U.

Which is fair, though that hasn't erased the others from history. I'm a reasonably switched-on person, but I have to pause every time I read something about an XBox console to work out which they're on about. I do understand why they couldn't stick to a numerical system, because they'd always have been one lower than the equivalent PlayStation, but it's still a mess.

Don't you just call it Xbox or PlayStation like a normal person?

There was a poll posted here a few years ago, UK consumers were calling a games console an Xbox whether it was a PlayStation or a Nintendo.

I suspect there are going to be a lot of disappointed kids at Christmas due to the bizarre naming convention MS have adpoted. There will be a good few One S consoles being gifted instead of Series S consoles if that's what the name turns out to be.

I tried explaining the One S / One X / Series S / Series X naming convention to my relatively tech-savvy wife yesterday, and even she wasn't 100%.

As I said though, in a year max you'll only be able to get a Series S or X.

They could have called the Xbox One X the 4th Xbox and gone with Xbox 5 this generation.

They had a load of names in the running and none of them made it in. Xbox Elite, Infinite, Alta, Aura and Helix were all being discussed in August last year.

I think any of those would have been better. Except 'Elite' since that was already used for both the 360 and the current high-end controller.

I understand why they couldn't go with the numerical naming convention, but there is no reason they couldn't do a Sega and have a completely separate name for each console generation. I was going to name-drop Nintendo in there too but then I remembered about the Wii U and how that worked out for them.

They could have even worked around the numerical issue by skipping a number like MS Windows OS.
