That would be amazing. It's unlikely but will Dirt have crossplay as the sunday team are getting this for PS4 and I'd love to get this free and join them rather than having to buy the PS4 version.

There's cross-gen play, so PS4 and PS5 players can join together, with crossplay being something they want to include, but it wouldn't be available for launch.

I know I keep saying it but how cross platform play isn’t massively common by this point Is just beyond me.

It's about time you bought a console for yourself.

People whining about the more powerful console owners having an unfair advantage probably.

People would complain of course, nothing that probably couldn’t be worked around of course if they really wanted to.

I do hope that Harry Potter game isn't an exclusive. I'd never be able to play it if it was stuck on a PS5, unless it somehow made its way to PS Now for more than a month. It's the only thing that interested me from the PS Showcase. Not that I was watching. I just saw Harry Potter trending on Twitter and the first thing to be shown was a comparison between the PS1 game and the new one. I have been reading the Showcase thread here, though, and yeah... It really was the only thing that interested me from what I've seen was announced.

It isn't (PS5 exclusive, I mean). The press release says it's available on current gen as well (Xbox One and Series S/X)

I’ve just had a thought about online vs in-store pre-orders. What if a COVID surge causes another full lockdown by November, and all the shops are closed? Imagine the outraged gamers!

Well, that's good. This should be the most realised the wizarding world has ever been, so it would be a shame to miss out on it. Series S version it is, then.

I’m going to try and keep my expectations in check because my mind wants it to be Bully set at Hogwarts.

It's less about power and more about input, isn't it? In shooters for example mobile players are generally at a disadvantage while PC players are at an advantage (with consoles in the middle). Cross-play is great for several reasons but I think it's important to have weighted matchmaking that keeps you with other players from your platform unless that isn't possible - either because of low player numbers or because you're explicitly trying to play with a cross-play party, in which case you probably should be matched with others in the same situation.

There's also the problem of cheating being more prevalent on PC, so opening up to cross-play can expose console players to a higher level of cheating.

(Regardless I don't think those complaints are what have been holding cross-play back, and I am pro cross-play on balance)
