I don't think there were many who were expecting games not already in the backwards compatible program to magically work.
Microsoft have done a good job so far getting as many games as they can into the program and they seem to be putting quite a lot of effort in.

Wow! Toy Story 3 loads faster than RDR2! Who'da thunk it!

But seriously, those load times are going to make getting into some games a breeze. Probably can't do much for loading into online games, but it will such a blessing to not need to wait about a minute for the likes of GTA V and Battlefront 2.

One thing they really need to sort out is the what feels like constant OS updates on xbox.
It's strawberry floating update time again feels like the bloody basic machine boot up sequence these days.

Stop strawberry floating about with the OS microsoft its fine as it is.

Now that we know pretty much everything I wonder when they'll start the pre-order process and finalise price? There's not just 9 months to go until I suspect the launch to be so they can't leave it all that much longer so they can get the hype train rolling at a pace.
I want to pre-order from John Lewis.

There's only usually one OS update a month, I hope they keep that rate up.

Just leave it plugged in, like you’re meant to.

Considering how expensive both the Xbox One X and PS4 Pro are to run, I always turn them off. Not one for wasting electricity. SAVE THE PLANET!

Well that and SSE told me that's what's causing my electricity bill to spike so drastically in the Winter months.

I've never used the standby feature on consoles.
I don't see the point of keeping it powered when I'm not using it.

Are you being deliberately thick, dear? The point is that it updates when you’re not using it.

Either leave it plugged in, or stop complaining about updates.

I realise that but I also do the same with the PS4 and it doesn't seem to have anywhere near the same number of OS updates as my xbox.
I don't own a Switch so have no idea how often that updates the OS but I can't imagine it's more than the xbox.

Why are we expected to leave the thing turned on and using electricity 24/7, though? You can't justify that by saying "oh well it downloads updates automatically so they aren't as annoying" like the updates wouldn't be annoying if Microsoft didn't insist on Microsoft-ing the dashboard and redesigning it every few months :slol:

It allows for all those game updates too, though. And remote downloads, and instant game resume. It uses about £15 of electricity if on standby for an entire year. 4p a day for the convenience of being able to switch the console on instantly and know everything is ready to go.

Do you all turn your TVs off at the mains? How about your Sky boxes or PVRs? Do you turn your routers off when there’s going to be nobody in the house?

....yeah? :shifty: Like in the grand scheme of things if it doesn't have to be on all the time it shouldn't be on all the time. Getting people into the habit of wasting electricity just seems wrong considering the state of things at the moment. All it's doing is telling Microsoft you're okay for them to give you 90GB updates for games in future because it'll download when you're not watching, and that's not a future anyone wants.

Microsoft's initial Game Awards reveal ended with a look at the Series X console, the new controller resting against it - and this one image effectively summarises the contrasts in approach to the next-gen design. On the one hand, there's revolution in the form of the console itself, its revamped form factor, double board design and prodigious airflow. And then there's the controller - an altogether more cautious design perhaps, but with worthwhile new features and an approach to accessibility that opens up the controller to more users, while making it more comfortable for those already used to it.

There's still plenty of unanswered questions though. Just how much power will the console actually draw from the wall? Is the final retail Series X really going to be as discreet as the Xbox One X under load? We've already showcased the form factor up against the X, but how about actual integration into a media cabinet? And finally - the biggest question of all. If there is another Xbox console coming alongside Series X, what's that going to look like? We can't wait to find out.

I feel like the ability to schedule an update would be welcome. Like, if you don't wanna leave it on all the time that's fine, but then you get a message saying an update is due, so you can leave it updating overnight as a one-off.
