Xbox Series X|S Thread - Power Your Dreams.

It'll be interesting to see what (if any) difference there is between games running on a 'Series S' and those running on Xbox One X.

In theory the 'Series S' could offer some obvious upgrades, but with all software for the next year or so (I think they said that, maybe just MS produced games) running on everything, there should interesting comparisons to be made.

I certainly don't think the British are exceptional in the way you describe as I think every nation has good and bad times and some times great people just cluster in certain places due to the circumstances.
If anything I think I admire the Italians the most because of the Roman Empire which I've always thought of as the best Empire because it brought civilisation to the world and generally just kicked serious arse. It's also been the subject of so many great books and TV series it's hard not to think of the Roman Empire as the best. The British Empire just didn't do a good enough job of being a great source of TV gold so maybe they could have spent a bit more money on better clothes or ending slavery a bit earlier.

I hope I don't come off as being a British exceptionalist as I feel (It's up to others to decide though I suppose) I take the piss out of us just as much as I praise us and while I do indeed like the UK I know we have problems and other places do things better than we do.

I hope that made sense as I've been stuck in the house for what seems like a while now and I'm starting to lose what few marbles I have left.

Most people knew you weren't being serious. Don't worry about it.

If Series S has a disc drive and is comparable to Xbox X in terms of backwards compatibility, I will probably plump for that one.

They certainly are setting the bar high for themselves.
It does seem like this should be a larger jump in power and potential than 360 to xbox one.
Now we just need to see actual game footage and not target renders.

They definitely are setting the bar high from the sounds of it, as you said we just need to see what games look like on it and what exclusives it will have. This is the one area where they really need to impress to get some people away from Sony and on/back on the Xbox, as the Switch has shown it’s the great games that shift consoles, not specs.

I just hope the rumours of the developers they've bought being given a lot of freedom to make the games they want are true.
Having unfettered developers with ample resources could give Microsoft a decent library of exclusives for next gen.

It would make sense. It's hard to see them winning people over with more Halo/Gears/Forza. Fresh and new ideas is what they need.

Seems like plenty of new games on the way.

New Games: Everwild, Grounded

New games from "fresh" IP: Hellblade 2, Sea of Thieves ongoing, State of Decay 3, Outer Worlds 2/DLC, Wasteland 3.

New Spin-offs: Minecraft Dungeons, Gears Tactics.

Old games but its been a while since the last one: Battletoads, Psychonauts 2, Age of Empires IV then possibly Fable and Perfect Dark.

Unknown games: Rare game, Ninja Theory's Project Mara, Ninja Theory's Project Insight, Compulsion's game, Obsidian's game, InXile's AAA RPG.

Then you've got 3rd party exclusives plus games from any future acquisitions.

Moon Studios are making an Action RPG too, although no guarantees Microsoft have exclusivity on that yet.

Microsoft’s Xbox chief, Phil Spencer, says the company’s next-gen Xbox Series X console is still on schedule for later this year, but game production is a little more of an unknown. In an interview with CNBC, Spencer notes that there could be “some impact” to Xbox Series X schedules, but that “the teams are doing a very good job with keeping our hardware on track” and “overall we’re in line with where we thought we would be.”

“I’d say the bigger unknown is probably the game production, just being honest,” says Spencer. “Game production is a large scale entertainment activity now, you have hundreds of people coming together, building assets, working through creative.”

Xbox game developers are now mostly working from home, creating and sharing assets that are often gigabytes in size over US home internet connections — an obvious challenge. “On the game production side, we’re learning every day,” admits Spencer. “I still feel good about it, but I also need to make sure that the security and safety of the teams is the most important thing, and not unduly push when things just aren’t ready.”

They certainly seem to be trying to rectify that so let's see if they've done enough to satisfy the more demanding customers.
They will need to go beyond the FPS and driving game.

This is funny, but honestly I'd appreciate the breather with all the Game Pass and back compat stuff to slog through.

I’m so excited by this. For the last few generations I’ve been leaving it later and later to jump in, and then right at the end, pick up the other console to go through exclusives. I didn’t get round to the Xbox One at all though. Came close last Christmas, mainly for Forza Horizon games, but decided to hold off for this.

I’m pretty sure I’ll be trying to get one no matter what, as those Horizon games and hopefully a version of Cyberpunk would be a pretty solid start.

AMD Ramps Up CPU Production For PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X

Not even the coronavirus will delay the next-gen consoles.

In the recent earnings call, AMD CEO Dr. Lisa Su stated that "We expect semi-custom revenue to increase in the second quarter and be heavily weighted towards the second-half of the year, as we ramp production to support the holiday launches of the new PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X consoles."

AMD's commitment to increase chip production is an encouraging sign as it would imply that Sony and Microsoft should receive sufficient chips for their new devices. Barring any external setbacks, the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X should be in shelves by Christmas time.
