He left MS a couple of years ago but I assume he was maybe involved in the early stages of development.

Will be interesting to see some actual size comparisons. Unless height is now the only definition of what’s big then I’m not convinced it is bigger.

but.....it....clearly is bigger... :|

It’s clearly taller and the sx is clearly fatter. How do we determine which is bigger? I think we need actual comparisons. Sitting next to the controller in the actual reveal it doesn’t look as big as some images have suggested.

Looking at the graphic posted in the PS5 thread it looks like the PS5 is taller standing up but the XSX is taller lying down, if that makes sense. We need internal volume stats to do a fair comparison, someone get on that.

The exact size of the X is known in millimetres. I'll wait for the PS5 size but I'd be very surprised if its not bigger.

In cm XSX is 15.1Wx15.1Dx30.1H so 6863.1cm^3

Based on some crude assumption from the various size comparisons going around the PS5 looks to be something like 10.5cm wide and 39cm tall, with a currently unknown depth.

Based on those numbers it would have to be at most 16cm deep to come in at a smaller volume than the XSX. That would be the smallest depth to a console since the PS2.

It's going to be bigger.

It's taller and wider, but thinner.

I’m hoping Xbox’s first party showing is taking place in early July rather than towards the end as that’d mean a very long wait to see what they’ve been working on to try and best Sony.

Hype levels building already, seriously though I think Xbox could absolutely smash their first party this time round, what we know of already sounds and looks great and hopefully what we don’t know about or haven’t seen looks just as good.

I'm struggling to think of AAA launch games other than Halo. Maybe some Global Publishing Deals like Ryse/Sunset Overdrive or Gears/Forza Horizon Campaign DLC.

Should be plenty of AA though in the launch period with Medium/Scorn/The Ascent/Gears Tactics/Psychonanuts 2/Grounded as well as the big 3rd party games.

I imagine Flight Sim is launching this year?

I’m just looking forward to seeing what they bring to the table, even if like Sony a lot of it isn’t coming out till late 2021/early 2022.

It'll probably be out on PC this year but not consoles.

Ah I thought it might be coming to consoles this year as well, not that its a game that I’d buy but as a graphical showcase it looks fantastic, saw a clip this morning of a plane flying with a thunderstorm in the distance and it looked amazing.

I may have caved and got myself a 1p place holder order on ShopTo as well :shifty: I can always cancel it if they don’t show anything amazing at their July show.

Quite possibly Minecraft with raytracing will debut on Series X. In time, this will prove to be the biggest game in history so if there is a period of exclusivity and streamers are seen by their audiences, then it will surely benefit the platform.

The PS5 hardware is kind of disappointing honestly, producing a less powerful system that seems to take up a lot of space. The only thing I think might justify it is if the increased size and being less compact makes it cheaper to implement a cooling system and together with slightly less powerful internals make the system cheaper to purchase for consumers; which will be a huge factor considering how expensive this upcoming generation looks likely to be in the face of a massive recession. The you also have to consider the "secret sauce" aspect of consoles as their performance cannot always be easily reduced to numbers on spreadsheet and often employ software tricks to eek out more than you would expect.

Really like the design of the XSX, as I have stated before. Very compact and elegant in how the cooling is implemented and seems built more around gaming PC design language than any console we have seen to date (function first, form second). I hope MS manage to improve their content this generation because if they do it could be a really great machine.

It’d be interesting to know Sony’s Design philosophy in terms of the console itself. MS basically let their engineers dictate the form factor entirely.

PS4 system architect Mark Cerny didn't see the design of the console until it was revealed to the public on Sony's E3 stage in 2013. This meant he created the hardware and then designers found a box to put it in! With PS5 Digital Foundry during their PS5 reveal video speculate that it has multiple vents around the device. Cerny spoke during his Road to PS5 talk about variable frequencies that maintain a steady power draw and thus constant temperature, suggests he would have been part of the design process of the PS5 chassis.

But to be clear, the PS4 doesn't have an overheating problem, it has fans that during a demanding game run at maximum speed to maintain a safe temperature, but this causes a noise problem.
