PS4 system architect Mark Cerny didn't see the design of the console until it was revealed to the public on Sony's E3 stage in 2013. This meant he created the hardware and then designers found a box to put it in! With PS5 Digital Foundry during their PS5 reveal video speculate that it has multiple vents around the device. Cerny spoke during his Road to PS5 talk about
variable frequencies that maintain a steady power draw and thus constant temperature,
suggests he would have been part of the design process of the PS5 chassis.
But to be clear, the PS4 doesn't have an overheating problem, it has fans that during a demanding game run at maximum speed to maintain a safe temperature, but this causes a noise problem.
