Do you need to own the game digitally or can I slap my borderlands 3 disc in the machine and get this ?

Disc is fine. Saves carry over too.

I got it from Tesco a month or so ago for £5 and haven't even tried it just grabbed it cause it's cheap guess I will wait and it will be one of my first things to play on the new console.

Yeah, I bought the digital version in a recent sale and haven’t started it yet. Free upgrade is a very nice bonus.

Both series X and PS5 sections have been added to Boomerang with games available for rental when they release.

Wait, how did I not know Forza Horizon 4 was getting an optimised version?! But there are some strange entries on that list. King Oddball is basically a mobile game. Not quite sure how it justifies a next-gen upgrade!

Witten Previews

Stepping back, what they indicate to me is that the Series X is a seriously high performance console that just needs the right conditions to really perform. It needs a flashy TV panel, with the requisite brightness for true HDR, with HDMI 2.1 for the really transformative visuals, and with variable refresh rate for the smoothness. It needs a flashy headset or sound system for making the most of the audio. And it needs all the bespoke, and therefore expensive internals to get it all working properly - just as a Formula One car, to use a slightly tired analogy, needs the right tyres, and the right flappy bits, and the funny steering wheels that pop off, if it wants to truly go fast. And it ideally needs the one in the hotseat to know just a bit more about what they're doing than usual, if it's going to really hum.

If you've got all that though, and you don't mind just a smidge more thought than usual for a plug-and-play thing like a console, what a joy it is to use. And how genuinely forward thinking its vision is too: a step away from forcing you forwards - from the idea that you must need a new console to play its exclusive games, to the idea you might want one, to make your old games better, to make your vast and dusty pile of shame new again, to actually be on display in your home. This is a console that, like the PS5, is coming roughly six to eighteen months earlier than its truly tentpole games, but a few days with the Series X tells me it doesn't really need them. It's the console itself I actually want.

https://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2020 ... x-series-x

I’ve also investigated a littler further and found that Quick Resume seems to handle online games well. Fallout 76 kicks me out to the main menu when I reconnect, and that’s what I expected from any game with a server. But Hitman 2 picks up where I left off and quickly reconnects to the server without issue. This is a sign that developers could potentially work this feature into the flow of their games.

Quick Resume also worked even between accounts.
Again, another good sign. This means that if you’re working on the Titanfall 2 campaign, you can pick that up when your roommate or sibling get finished with Hitman 2 for the night. You cannot, however, create two separate Quick Resume saves for the same game across two different accounts. Only one person on a system can have a game active at a time.

The reality is that the Xbox Series X does exhaust hot air, but in my tests, that air is cooler than what comes out of the Xbox One X or PlayStation 4 Pro by a significant margin.

Final thoughts for now
My time with the Xbox Series X preview hardware is going to end soon. For now, I’ve come away impressed. The obvious point of weakness is big exclusive games that people want to help justify the big upfront purchase of a console. And the greatest engineering in the world cannot cover that up.

But I don’t know why Microsoft would go through all the effort of building such an excellent piece of kit if it didn’t intend to put it to good use. This isn’t the Xbox One. Microsoft didn’t know what it wanted to do with that console, but it was clear that it didn’t really want to focus on games. By comparison, the Series X feels like a company taking gaming very seriously.

Like I said at the beginning, this is the machine you build if you believe in games. If you’re Microsoft, and you think that the future of Xbox is in delivering gaming content, you’d design the Xbox Series X.

And that’s what I want from all of the big companies in games. I’m not all that invested in whether they succeed or fail in some key performance indicator. I want them to believe that they can only succeed by making games because that’s when publishers and hardware manufacturers are at their best. And I think Microsoft is on the cusp of being at its best. That’s exciting.

I've no idea how, but the Series X dissipates less heat than Xbox One/One X and uses less power also. :o

Both sites use a headline that makes the same underlying point which, in part, is derived from the design.

I'm hoping to rent Assassins Creed and Watchdogs on XSX.
