Project Gotham Racing 1, 2 or 3 please, as difficult as that probably is due to licensing.

I'd pay actual money for PGR2, that game was so good.

I'd love the PGR games on BC again. I don't get the licensing explanation for why they haven't happened yet. If you've got the disc already and they don't *sell* the game on the store or anything again would they still need to muck about with licensing stuff? I've never got my head around it.

Is it an issue with licensing the music, or the vehicles, or both?

I think it's just a policy thing, where they're not going to work on BC for titles that they can't then make available on the store/gamepass etc.

I imagine there's so many games that they almost certainly could have working, but they just can't untangle rights issues, or the rights holder don't want them to.

Honestly I'm surprised Jet Set Radio Future hasn't been brought over, but again it's probably a licencing thing for the music in it.

Yeah, the capture stuff isn’t great. I only really use it when I want to put a copy of an on-screen map onto my iPad, so I can annotate it while I play, but it can take a few minutes just to upload a single screenshot (though it seems to have been better lately).

I get an error message every single time I press the share button. No idea why, it's probably fixable. But then I only ever press it by mistake so it's not really an issue.

I don't really get why licensing comes into BC. It's not like they are re-releasing the games, right? The game already exists, they are just improving their emulator to allow it to run more games. Although JSRF is becoming really expensive these days so it becoming BC without a digital release isn't going to help me at all.

I have sort of the opposite problem on PS5: it uploads really quickly, even multiple images, but leaves no confirmation message of successful upload, so I'm sat there wondering if I actually remembered to hit send / grasping at my phone in the dark to check Twitter.

I’d swap for that problem.

Yeh as long as it isn't sold on the webstore or new discs printed then there's no problem with licences.

Off the top of my head content with expired licences such as Forza Horizon 1 and Rock Band DLC has made the jump for people who already own digital versions or discs. PGR series would also be possible via disc (not sure they were ever sold digitally). I imagine they aren't already BC because they are having technical problems rather than legal... maybe they can brute force past the tech issues with the more powerful series hardware :datass:

Also going off topic a little, but why does gaming have this problem with licensing more than other media? You don't really see movies and TV shows become completely unobtainable despite them being filled with licensed music too. The Forza Horizon games in particular are disappointing as they're not your standard sport-type games where the new release automatically supersedes the old one. The locations make the older ones all worth playing.

It’s to do with originally being licensed for a specific platform or for a limited timeframe.

Old radio and TV shows are a similar nightmare for re-releasing on different media. It’s why Desert Island Discs on iPlayer (sorry, “Sounds”) can only play short clips of the music. And when a TV show has music that was licensed for broadcast, it has to be renegotiated for release on DVD (sometimes making the release financially unviable).

Such is one of the reasons the old Top Gear specials have about three different versions of the soundtrack used within them. Licensing is hell.

It's also the reason that the versions of GTA you get online just now are objectively lesser than their original releases. I believe the licence for music use in perpetuity is tends to be much more expensive. So Rockstar only paid for time-limited licences for the music in those games, meaning they've actually gone in and removed some songs from the game.

If this was just for versions sold going forward it would be shite, but understandable, however they've actually issued patches for existing customers effectively removing the music from copies that are already out there. So they are literally going into your games and removing content you paid for.
